These are comfortable and keep your feet from getting too claustrophobic. I'd like them more in a Wide size, because I have hobbit feet, but even with my hobbit feet these fit reasonably well and are great for time spent outdoors.
Let me first say - this is NOT a hiking shoe. It will not stand up to the rigors of hiking under any circumstances. That said, they are very comfortable slip-ons for around the house. The openings allow them to breath quite well. The manufacturing quality and materials leave a bit to be desired especially when it comes to the sole. I just ordered them, but I doubt very seriously that they'll hold up for any stretch of time...definitely not if one tries to take a real hike in them. Fortunately, I ordered them for what I believe them to be.
Update - 6/14/2023 - I can no longer recommend these shoes. They will be put in the trash. If you walk on gravel surfaces, the gravel will embed itself deep into the soles and you can't get them out without ripping the sole. The design needs to be fixed to not be small dimples - but rather a ridge or other design. If you are only going to wear these on flat surfaces - by all means get them - but that is not reality for me.I am a 10.5 and these were spot on. For a summer casual shoe, you cannot beat these. They are a cross between an open sandal and a very light sport shoe. They can get wet. You can walk on the beach. You can hike on a trail. You can wear with socks or not without (I prefer without).Ride a bike? No problem. Lounge by the pool? They are great for that.I am not sure I would want to play softball with these, but hey - give it a try.
They are comfortable for walking around all day, light and breathable enough so my feet don't get hot, and dry fast when they get wet. It's a great combination for camping and / or hiking.
This review is for the BASS OUTDOOR Men's Hex Mesh Vent Hiking Shoe. It’s a nice looking shoe, good quality, but calling it a “hiking” shoe seems a little off. It is for sure a great choice for wet rainy weather, or for wearing around a pool area or beach. The look also goes well with Bermuda shorts or jeans. To me it is closer to a water shoe than a hiking shoe, but it is thicker most water shoes, with the appearance of a closed toe sandal. From a fit perspective, I did go up a half size since that usually works best for me closed-toe shoes when a “wide” option isn’t available. There were a couple of things I personally didn’t like so much about the fit and feel. First was the ankle collar area. It is somewhat small with very little stretchiness, which does help ensure a snug fit after you put them on. However it also makes them difficult to slip on since it doesn’t stretch and there are no adjustment straps at all. Depending on the width of your feet, this may or may not be an issue. The other aspect I didn’t like was the inner sole shape at the big toe area. There is a ridge on the side at the big toe, almost like a mini-arch support. It rubs and can be a bit uncomfortable. The entire toe box should be completely flat side-to-side, but it isn’t. Again, this may or may not be an issue for you personally.

I’ve seen a lot of these vented shoes. They certainly do provide support with a solid rubber case; however, the location of the vents leave your feet open to sticks, stones, dirt, poison ivy, and other external irritants that more “closed” hiking shoes protect against.I normally wear an 11 1/2. I picked up the 11 1/2 and found them to be a bit tight. I’d recommend a half size larger. As the title on my review says, if you’re walking in an established path (rather than rocky hills or bushy undergrowth), these will serve you well - you basically slip them on a go. But if you’re going on a more rugged hike where you need traction and protection from debris getting in, choose a closed pair of hiking shoes.
These shoes are good lightweight breathable shoes for lighter uses. There just isn't enought strength to be used for off the beaten path hiking. The holes in the bottom also allow for things to enter from underneath into the shoe, not just leaving the shoe. These would be great for walking, biking, light hiking, and water shoes for rivers and creeks. They dry quickly when wet. The mesh is soft and breathable as well. The soles are not very thick but do offer some protection. These are great for light activity and not for rocky or rough terrain.
