I bought these for my son who wears custom made foot orthotics. He has very flat feet and it is hard to find a shoe that will accommodate the inserts. These are great shoes, very lightweight offering good support and the price was very affordable. The only thing that could be improved would be to make them in a slip on style (no laces). Propet is a dependable brand and superior quality.
it is SO hard to find a super wide toe box in a shoe that can pass for a dress shoe!In the past 6 months I've gone from wide to "super wide" after some foot, leg, back issues. I've learned - we have been destroying our feet for way too long! Chaco's were my first clue - they feel so amazing, I wish I could wear them to work. I live in them except for very active exercise and then work.then I discovered Altra running shoes....man! how awesome are they? My toes can splay out wide just like the Chacos! I was so happy!finally....I got sick of trying to sqeeze into "wide" dress shoes that really weren't that wide at all! I made do with XW Rockports for the past year...but when it came time to replace them...I ordered the same 13 XW Rockport Margin's and then I ordered the 13 5X wide propet - they arrived on the same day (thanks to Amazon Prime) and put one of each foot. Not EVEN close - the Propet shoe is MUCH wider in the toebox! I have to use a special lacing system (on internet) to tie the Propet shoes so my heel doesn't slip but I'm fine with that to have my toes as wide as they want to be!Now - at work I have these, the Chaco's and the Altra's for everything else....oh, and my 135E combat boots for riding the Harley...and I have NO more pinched metacarpal bones in my feet - no more burning feet, no more sore calves, knees, and nagging back pain! I don't know why it took me to almost 50 years old to figure out how wrong the shoe industry has been with the design of shoes...but the wider the toe box - the better it is for your health! Walk barefoot and watch your toes - they splay wide - the they were intended to. If you have pain (like I did) try to find some of these solutions (or others) with wide, wide, wide toe boxes! My doctor probably doesn't like that I "fixed my own problems" haha...he can't charge me anymore! but hey...I'm happy. - let those toes spread! lol.
I find these shoes to be extremely comfortable and required only a few days to break in. I was a little concerned about their appearance based on the listing photos, but ordered them under the "try before you buy" program, so even if they were not what I expected, I could have returned them no questions asked. But because they were so comfortable, I bought them after only 3 days !The only part I found a bit odd is that if you tend to remove your shoes using your foot to catch the back of the other shoes, like I normally do, these tend to be a little difficult to remove that way, just due to the way the soles are designed/shaped. But I got used to them quickly, so no problems there !
I've owned several pairs of these shoes over the years. I am a big (14 EEE) and therefore heavy person, and they are the only shoes I have found with truly adequate cushioning that does not break down over time. All other shoes start out cushy for the first few days and then wear out, or are never adequately cushioned to begin with. These are not the most stylish shoes, but they work very well for me. Good for the office or walking. The soles wear like iron. The original insoles wear out after a few months, but aftermarket insoles fit and work well to extend the life a bit. The laces last the life of the shoe.I have had two pairs that did not meet my expectations. One pair was incorrectly constructed, missing the inner cushion that is laminated to the last. The manufacturer's customer service was no help. Another pair had the sole break linearly across the toe, though they were near the end of their life when that happened. Luckily they were still usable for the rest of the day.
These shoes are pretty comfortable - definitely very wide, at least in the size I bought. Support is fine - but, the toe box is oddly shaped and very roomy, so when I tie the shoes tightly, you can see the leather getting pulled in an odd-looking way. These shoes are fine for going around town or doing basic chores in, but I would not wear them to a job interview or an important event because of the misaligned toe box.
I purchased this pair of shoes because I'd previously worn Rockports which, though appearing comparable to Prophet . . . weren't in stock nor hence, immediately available for purchase. Mea culpa. Also, and although I've occasionally dealt with minor foot issues since age 10 or so, have been successfully purchasing shoes online without difficulty or incident for about 10 years now. Unfortunately, but perhaps due to having an unusually high arch, the increased 'hardness' of the Villager Walking Shoe's sole, and subsequently diminished flexibility, generated severe pressure points (at two separate locations) on the tops of both my feet.
I was purchasing this shoe in hopes of finding something that would be comfortable since I deal with swelling. Needless to say, it addressed the majority of my swelling except for the tip of my foot. This is largely due to the fact that the tongue of the shoe is not fully adjustable like a sneaker. It looked nice and was very comfortable around the sides of my feet, but the top of my foot was very uncomfortable.
I have had multiple pairs over the years and like them. Good comfortable everyday shoe. Will buy again.
