As I've gotten older, my feet have gotten longer and wider. I now wear shoes that are 11, 11.5 or 12 with "wide" or 3E sizing... (used to wear 9.5-10 D, so don't assume your shoe size will stay the same for your whole life, in my 60s now and haven't been able to wear a 9.5 D shoe in 20 years). I debated whether to order these sandals in 11, 11.5, or 12 in one of the widest size options. I after reading some reviews where people said they were pulling the heel strap way in, I decided to try size 11 (wide) first and it was the right choice. The sandal is wide enough for my spreading-out feet. The sandals these are replacing felt like strapping boards to the bottom of my feet. My older feet also like soft cushy soles/insoles... A LOT. And I was a little concerned about reviews that said these sandals were NOT very soft/cushy in the sole/insole, but those reviews said the sandals were comfortable anyway... and that is true. These aren't real cushy on the sole, but the certainly don't feel like boards on the bottom of my feet either. First day wearing them was long "day out" trip... 2 hours of driving, exploring a small town, having lunch, more driving, another couple of hours exploring a preserved old west town, 2 more hours of driving home. Brought comfortable walking shoes and socks in case the sandals weren't comfortable enough to make it through the whole day. The sandals lasted the whole day without ever once feeling even slightly uncomfortable. Have since worn them for several afternoons with the same result. As long as the 2 top straps and the heel strap are adjusted right, these sandals are really comfortable in spite of not having the cushiest sole/insole. I have other sandals with "rubber" insoles that are really uncomfortable and the sandals that feel like boards have smooth leather insoles. These sandals have a suede-like covering on the insole. Another brand of sandal I had with that sort of insole covering wore through the extremely thin suede-like covering very quickly exposing "rubber" underneath. I hope that doesn't happen with these sandals, only time will reveal how durable the insole is, but I've never worn through anything on the insole of other New Balance products I've owned. Some have mentioned that there's not a lot of arch support... I would agree with that. BUT they were still extremely comfortable on my feet. For the review, I debated over 4 or 5 stars, if they had 4.5, I'd give these 4.5 because of the excellent early performance, I wonder if I would have liked them even more with a softer sole/insole. I do have orthotics with arch support and neuroma pads (you'll probably find out about this stuff when you get older too!) that aren't practical to use with sandals, but there's nothing more comfortable than sandals on a summer day. So I really needed something I could wear that offered good foot support without the orthotics and these are working for me so far.
This a great looking sandal and provides a lot of comfort.
I bought this sandal hoping to get a pair that will finally fit my wide feet perfectly (I wear size 11 Nike sandals and my feet is size 10). So, does it fit the bill? Well, in some ways it does. They fit nicely although the front is a bit snug and I still have to let the front straps about 1/4 loose like my Nike sandals. The instep is smooth and feels good to the feet unlike the rubbery Nike instep and other outdoors sandals instep in general (which will gradually feel better only after several wear), and the leather material looks nice too. It claims to be waterproof though I haven't tested them yet and the instep construction while creative (they're not glued to the sole, they're connected by velcro attachment) make squeaking sounds as you hit the ground. This will probably dissipate as I use them more and more daily, but we'll see. All in all, a great pair of sandals and would have been the greatest if they don't make that squeaky sounds. Highly recommended for people with wide feet.
I love these sandals.Size: I have a 6E foot (EEEEEE) and I normally take size 9.5 or 10. I ordered these in 10 6E and my friend was the first to snag them and try them on.He takes an 11 with a wide foot, and they were a perfect fit for him. For me, they're a little long, but I think I've been adjusting upward my whole life for my width, and like I said, a 9.5 is also what I take but wasn't available.Quality: They look and feel good and tough, and the insole is removable (it's bound by two velcroe strips on each end) which I guess is if you're worried about the water getting in there. I've only had them a bit but so far so good.Comfort: EXCELLENT. I really loathe shopping for shoes and sandals are normally out of the question. These are my favorite pair of any shoes I own, the comfort was perfect right out of the box, and I forgot I had them on.Overall, love them. Long term quality is still an unknown but if you're looking for wide foot sandals that are comfortable, or any comfortable sandals, these are the ones.
Great fit and comfort. Was a little wary without being able to try them on, but fit perfectly. This was a replacement pair for a pair I had bought years ago at a store that no longer carries them. Hence, I ordered them on line with a little trepidation regarding fit, but fit just great. Thanks.
Late last Winter I ordered another pair of Dunham Men's St Johnsbury, Brown, sandals. I started wearing them this Spring, about three months ago, and now the upper straps on both sandals are wearing through prematurely due to what must be a sharp or rough inner surface on the slider rings on both sandals. Seven years ago I purchased the the exact same pair of St Johnsbury sandals. The old pair show no wear in this area even after seven years of constant seasonal use. I would like to exchange them for a new pair that do not have the defective ring. Now, the supplier, Zappos, is playing the "they can't do anything" game because it was sold through Amazon and Amazon is saying they can't do anything because it is Zappos responsibility 30 days after delivery. Back and forth, back and forth. Garbage customer service on a obviously defective product!
Sturdy, stylish, reliable & well-crafted. My go-to walking sandal for last 20+ years. Highly recommend.👍
