I bought these to replace my worn out North Face Chilkats. The new Chilkats looked much cheaper, and these boots had a good looking leather upper. Unpacking them from the box, they were a bit lighter than I'd expected, and the top 3 hooks for the laces were loose in their holes. Looking closely at them, I decided they would not be able to pull out and laced them up to take them out for a spin.3 long hikes later I am pleased! Very comfortable, plenty warm, and they do seem durable. Mink Oil or Snow Seal them before use, and they are quite waterproof- more so than other boots I have had that bill themselves as waterproof.I wear 2 pairs of thick socks, so I ordered these .5 size larger and in the EEE width so everything would fit. This was a good call as the boots fit snugly enough to provide good footing, but no pinching or tightness anywhere. Finally, I got these on sale from Amazon for $57! If they last 1 year (I hike and snowshoe 2-300 miles per winter) I will be happy! They look like they will.UPDATE, May 2015: I hiked ALL winter long in these boots and they show almost no wear. I am really pleased that I'll be getting at least one more, and probably 2-3 more years out of a pair of $60 boots. You do need to wear GOOD socks with them to keep your feet warm, but these boots exceeded my expectations by far!
Really, my only complaint is no heal loop to help this stiff old guy get his shoes on when the dog is telling me I better hurry. Otherwise, I like this boot better than any I've bought (some still nearly new and sitting on the shelf) in years. I have huge and wide wide wide feet, but this is comfortable for hours on a concrete floor and I have a arch-support footbed on order which, I trust, will make it perfect (except for the loop). I can't lace it to the top or it chafes my shins but wrap the laces around the base of the boottop to use up the extra length and they flex nicely like that. I wouldn't complain if it had even more insulation, but that would have been off-the-charts. As it is, I put up with the 'putting-on' struggle and bless the manufacturer for an otherwise excellent fit for this 15EEE barnboot guy.
These boots fit perfectly. They are nice looking, as well. I purchased them to use during winter snow here in the New York City area. As it is only the beginning of November, I have not yet had the chance to test them in winter conditions. I had been looking for winter boots for several years. I have a very wide foot with a high instep, so getting a perfect is somewhat difficult. These fit great and, important for me, they are very easy to get my feet into. A pair of boots from a very famous manufacturer that I was previously using were always too narrow and extremely difficult to get my feet into. My socks would always get pulled tight on my toes and it was very uncomfortable. These are like night and day compared to the old brand. The only reason I haven't given them 5 stars is because I haven't used them yet.UPDATE...Well, as it is now the end of December, I had the opportunity to wear them for a few days as we had a heavy snow. They performed perfectly! Fantastic grip in snow and ice, warm, totally waterproof, and, most importantly, very comfortable! I was able to wear them all day. I am so happy with them, I plan to buy another pair!
This Brand of Boots have been my go-to winter boots for over 10 years. I especially like the roomy comfort they provide, even with thicker socks. I have been in alot of wet/snowy winter weather in these boots, never had any water infiltration. The ankle/foot support provided by this boot is the best, in my opinion.
I liked the fit and comfort.
I found these boots searching Amazon for 'EEEE Boots'. I ordered them and they came in a reasonable time. They appeared to be well made. When sitting, I tried on the boots and they seemed to be roomy enough all around. When I stood up, my toes were squished. Based on the design, I didn't feel like I could break these in. Having had to break in too many shoes and boots over the years, I now only buy the width that fits. I returned these and will look for something else. Size 'XX" should translate a little better? I still marked these true to width, whatever 'XX' actually means. Hope this helps someone else.
Appeared to be a great quality shoe. Ordered the five E width in a size 13. I have worn other Propet shoes in this size without issue. This boot was just too narrow. Returned without issue.
I go through a lot of boots not fitting because of wide feet and high arch, after replacing the factory insole with my own - this was my go to boots when the going gets rough outside and also on a weekly 4 mile hike. I have submerged these boots in water that went past the first row of shoe lace, while shoveling water out of a dead sump pump on the driveway and never got water into my shoes. It is truly waterproof and well insulated for winter use. The outer sole padding is also better than most boots as I have sensitive feet, I feel much less bumps on the path especially hiking as a result.
