I work at a ski resort and some days I teach skiing and other days/nights I work the carpet/quad chair lifts. I am out in extreme weather and I sometimes am standing on snow/ice/water for extended periods. I wanted/needed a great treaded sole boot that keeps my feet warm during these cold conditions were I did not slip and fall. They have a nice warm liner and are easy to pull on a quickly lace up and tie. They are durable and waterproof. I wear two socks while wearing them. They run a little big. I wear a 12 men’s. I wear a double E wide. I have plenty of width in the toe box. So far after 4 days of cold weather and 8 hours on my feet outside I am Very pleased and my feet are dry and warm. They are also comfortable. They are a little bit the the heavy bulky side but for what I utilize them for I like them very much. Very satisfied customer. I paid like $28 dollars for them! Wow!
Husband was skeptical because didn't think they looked manly enough but I talked him into them, as I have the female version for 3 winters now and they're the best snow boots I've ever had. Very durable, warm, and great grip in snow. Also waterproof. Now that he's tried them on and worn them, he says they look much better in person and he really likes them. Says they're very warm, comfortable -- feels like you bounce when you walk. Also, the tongue (which is a thick, real piece of leather) is sewn onto the sides so there is no way snow/water can get in even if you don't lace them up all the way. He wears a 12 and we bought a 12 and they fit great.
I am outside most of the day and the boots keep ed my feet nice and warm. They are very comfortable.
Contrary to what some of the reviews state here, these boots are just great! Using them here in Minnesota for when I go out to blow snow among other things. I bought a size larger than what I take in order to wear thermal socks and they’re just right with or without the socks. The liners are perfect and don’t pull out of the boot when you remove the boots. They are very warm and can be worn all day. I’m so glad I chose these and now I wish I had a spare pair! For those that complain, these are PACK BOOTS and aren’t meant to make a fashion statement! Yes, they’re big and heavy, but they keep you warm under extreme conditions.
I was looking for some snow boots in this price range and had been eyeing these for a long time. Like many reviewers have stated, they do run large (not only in length but in width too). Overall they seem rather klunky and heavy. I decided to buy a pair of Kamik nation plus (similar in price) and do a side by side comparison - so I pulled out the digital scale. I wear size 12, and the Kamiks came in at 2 lbs, 1-5/8 oz. per boot. These Northsides came in at 3 lbs. 2-7/8 oz per boot. That is almost a full pound heavier per boot. One thing I really like about the Kamiks is they have a padded tongue which is very comfortable and adds to the overall warmth of the boot. It was worth a shot, but I'll be returning the Northsides.
I owned a pair of the original Northside "Balance Man" boots, almost identical to these, which were purchased over 10 years ago. They were fantastic, faithful boots for over a decade of regular use before they developed a hole in the outsole. I was pumped to find them here and excited for my new pair to arrive in time for winter only to find that the new design is essentially the same except for the toe box went from extra wide (it was very wide before, wider than any other shoes or boots I've ever worn, and I loved it) to extremely narrow. I have wide forefeet, but they are not ridiculous. I'm 6'4" and 175lb. I'm not a giant dude with big smushy hamburger feet. That being said I do need some extra room for my pinky toes. I knew as soon as I looked at these boots in real life that they weren't the same as before. Upon trying them on they absolutely smashed my toes together. Literally I could barely fit them on my feet. They are now extremely uncomfortable and there's no doubt that they aren't made the same as before. Another sign is that they also didn't used to have that raised reinforcement on the top of the toe box. Super disappointed as I used to rely very heavily on these boots. :( :( :( Epic fail
I ordered the boot at the size I normally wear. The fit is perfect, it is true to size. The foot area is snug but not too tight. Realize that inner linings will stretch due to wear and will mold to your foot. Ankle support is what I expect from a boot that has a liner. You will not get tight ankle support from this type of boot. These boots meet what I expect from them. I have worn them in deep snow and waded in shallow water without leaks. I wear gators over the boot to keep deep snow from going in through the top. The price was reasonable for this type of boot. I have had them for a week and have been in the snow every day. I recommend them for work or play.
These boots are great value. Very warm. Water proof. They have a removable liner. They look very good.
