As a lifetime skater wearing skate shoes for 30 years, I find many flat pedal shoes a bit stiffer than I want. That's great for some, don't get me wrong. However, coming from skate shoes, I simply wanted a beefy version for my rides, with some mtb features. The Jameson crank is nice, but this is the next step up. They feel extremely familiar, and have that exact same comfort and fit of every sole tech shoe I've had over the last 25 years - probably worn sole tech more than anything else. They have just the right amount of sole stiffness if you don't need an absolute tank, the outer is pretty waterproof (I live in southeast Alaska), they have never felt hot nor sweaty, they're a pleasure to look at, and Brandon rips. What else do you want? It would be rad if they pressed the same sole with their Michelin MTB material, but with how good the shoe already is, that's nitpicking. When the time comes for a new pair, which I don't expect to be very soon, I'm not sure what else I would even look at.
Grip is amazing, but the vibrations into the foot are super painful on prolonged descents. Not sure on the difference with my 5Tens, maybe fit, but these hurt terribly to descend on.
