I love these shoes for their light weight, quick laces, durability, and no break in period. However, I am typically a 7.5 and the size 7 fits me perfectly. The reviews are mixed as to if you should size down, but on Salomon's website it seems to be more of a consensus. I went for the 7 and I am so happy I did. The shoes fit like a glove and I am so happy with them, I might order another pair as a backup :). Anyway, this is a great pair of shoes for running in variable conditions, on trails, in the mud, you name it. So if you are like me and spend way too much time looking for the right trail shoe, this is the one!
I have been training for my first 35k and needed new trail shoes only 3 weeks out from race day. I tripped an abnormal amount in my Altras and feared going into race day with this known issue. I ordered these with only one long run left in my training plan before a taper and the big day, strapped them on, and hoped for the best. I took them for a 10-mile cruise on their first wear, and they felt fantastic. They fit true to size, with zero tripping, and the lace mechanism places even pressure on the top of the foot with no chance of coming loose. On race day, my feet felt great. I finished my 22-mile run without any rubs, tripping, or soreness. Even though I was anxious about using something so essential and relatively new on race day, I have absolutely no regrets in hindsight. Highly recommend!
I work in retail and average about 8 miles a day in the store. The floors are concrete and these shoes have pretty good grip (I haven’t slipped yet lol) but they are the most comfortable ones I have tried and I’ve been wearing my current pair since April 2022. I’m getting ready to purchase a new pair because if they lasted this long doing the work I do then it’s worth buying again. They have broke down mostly in the cushioning of the insoles just because we have snow 6-7 months out of the year and it’s hard on shoes. Definitely recommend if you work where you’re on your feet for your whole shift and if you unload trucks and push freight.
True to size! Very versatile for all types of hiking. Super comfortable even after 10miles. I love that they are well ventilated and super light compared to my old hiking shoes. This is my second pair and will never use a different type for hiking.
I’ve purchased this type of shoe 3 times now - first had the Speedcross 4, then two Speedcross 5’s. They last about 3-4 yrs for me, on average… the shoe holds up well, it’s the bottom treads that wear down before the shoe itself - I wish those were replaceable coz this shoe would last forever! I use these A LOT for trail running, hiking various terrains, and international travel /walking in all seasons... It’s the GOAT of hiking /trail shoes! I’ve tried Merrells, among other ‘reputable’ brands and they just don’t compare to the incredible traction and perfect fit I get from these - particularly the Speedcross version of Salomon. They hug my feet perfectly - no slipping in the toe box - where I feel in control of my foot placements. The lace garage and how quick they dry is another unique and welcome feature. I live in a cold winter climate in Minnesota and these somehow keep your feet pretty toasty, too, if you’re hiking/running (yes- even the non-gortex ones). Highly recommended.
Update: 2/17/22I still really like these shoes, but recently had me feet measured for a new pair of work shoes (I'm a nurse). Ends up I need more room in the toebox. After wearing a pair of Brooks that are the correct size, I find these shoes are too tight in the toebox. When I put the insoles that I need for arch support in them, it makes the problem worse. The reason I took I star off though is because the tread is wearing what seems to me to be really fast. See picture. The left is worse than the right. These have roughly 150 miles on them. My Garmin seems to think 400 miles is when you should retire shoes. If that is correct, these will not make it that long. When I did research on other brands, I was finding some in the same price range that people were getting 600 miles out of. I plan to re-home these and buy a pair that are the correct size.I love these shoes. They are super comfy, look really cute and grip the ground like nobody's business. I had been using them on paved routes, so I knew they were good there, but recently had the opportunity to use them on a trail that was mixed terrain. They handled great! There were rocky parts, slightly muddy areas, tree roots, and a steep downhill grade that was rocks. I didn't slip or turn my ankle once. I have a chronic back injury and I worry about falling and causing a flare up. I have enough confidence in these shoes that I feel that as long as I use my normal amount of caution, these shoes have my back. I also really like the quick laces, I didn't know if I would, but they are great. Just look at the paper explaining how to route them to "tie" them. Super easy.I hate ordering shoes without trying them on. I usually wear a 6.5 or 7. Amazon recommended a 6.5 and seeing as how I didn't know which size I needed, I went with it. The fit perfect.
Wonderful shoes !
These shoes are supportive but extremely comfortable . I've backpacked with them, and walked 25 K steps a day in them and them remain comfortable !
