When it comes to tapping shoes, the Capezio women's Manhattan Xtreme truly stands out. In terms of performance, the combination of the spring steel soundboard and TeleTone taps results in a crisp and clear sound that dancers crave. You’ll get the feedback you need to perfect your rhythm and impress your audience.
From a comfort perspective, the foam-cushioned footbed does wonders to keep your feet feeling fresh, even after hours of practice or performance. The full leather lining adds to the overall comfort, making this shoe a joy to wear.
Stylistically, the Manhattan Xtreme excels as well. Its elegant Mary Jane silhouette and classic black leather finish allow it to pair perfectly with any outfit, be it for casual rehearsals or formal stage performances.
However, it’s worth noting that like many high-quality shoes, there might be a bit of a break-in period. Some users have mentioned that the fit can feel somewhat stiff initially. Additionally, while the price reflects its quality, it may be higher than some entry-level options.

This is a VERY nice shoe! They are my third pair of Capezio tap shoes that I have owned. You cannot beat the price point. I ordered as I have grown up with the brand, I like the fit, and they seem to last a long time. There are improvements in the leather of the shoe and the arch support. I think they look very good on the foot. I ordered a 10 and my street shoe size is 9.5 to 10. I have not tried them with a sock or tights yet, but I anticipate they will be a really close fit, so I am on the fence as to what to advise as they don’t feel like they will loosen too much. A 10.5 would be too long. Go with your US shoe size and not old Capezio dance shoe sizes (e.g, my old shoes in what I guess is a foot light junior model are an 8). These have rubber on the bottom. I did not notice this and I find this incredibly annoying, but they all have this unless you customize the non-tap version of this with taps.Update: I gave these a 5-star in the end. After tapping non-stop for the last 3 days, they have loosened and feel excellent. I can wear a tight, or a thin sock and even a thin wool sock with them and the latter has really helped my feet warm up and mold the shoe. The heel cup has a little dig, but this was the case on my other capezios. I am softening them by pressing on them with each heel as I put them on and off and this helps. What is great about these are the linings. Gone are those curling footbeds of yesteryear!
bought these shoes for my role as mary poppins in my schools production and i loved them ! they were completely unnecessary, but they were so perfect for mary so i splurged and i have no regrets. i have little (and i mean little) experience tapping, but i do wear heels fairly often so getting used to height was no biggie for me ! i do believe it takes a small leaving curve so be aware of that when buying these shoes. otherwise, they’re super comfortable and the silhouette is beautiful ! it’s also a very stable shoe to dance in, which was the thing i was scared about. all in all, totally worth the money for me ! cant wait to use them more in the future.
Toe box is small. I have very small and narrow feet. Length wise it is true to size. I should have gotten a wide, and I never wear wide in shoes.
I tried the lower heeled ones first (having been out of dancing for quite awhile) and found these to be more comfortable. The sound is crisper too. And in tap dancing, you need to be on toes a lot. So much easier with the heel. The toe width is good too as I tend to get ingrown toenails from exercising. Found a great online teacher with downloadable lessons. Easy to understand and very methodical in his presentation. If anyone wants to know who he is, submit question.
Very cute and stylish but a bit too narrow at the toes and the ankle straps are too loose on the tightest setting. Would size up but then the ankle strap would still be use. Heel was also a bit unscrewed from base and metal plates were scratched already-not sure if used or this is normal for tap shoes since I’m a beginner.
Very comfortable
These were my first pair of character taps I'd ever owned- needed them to play Mary Poppins. I purchased a US9, which is my street size, the shoes fit perfectly! As other reviews have said, the actual strap is a bit big, but you can poke a new hole with a pushpin just fine. The sound was fantastic and they were very comfortable.
I received exactly what I ordered. Very pleased with my purchase. Very fast shipping!
