When it comes to trail running shoes, the Brooks Catamount stands out due to its innovative features and thoughtful design. The cushioning is one of its best attributes; the DNA FLASH midsole ensures you experience a soft landing with each step while maintaining a propulsive kick-off that enhances your speed.
In terms of traction, the TrailTack outsole truly excels, providing a reliable grip even on slippery rocks and muddy paths. This feature gives you the confidence to push your limits on diverse terrains. Additionally, the Ballistic Rock Shield allows runners to traverse rocky trails without worrying about foot injuries.
For those who often encounter wet conditions, the integrated mud guard and drainage slits are welcome additions. They prevent debris from entering while allowing excess moisture to escape, keeping your feet dry and comfortable.

I hike a lot on trails with abundant roots and rocks, including boulder climbing. These shoes grip, are comfortable and prevent foot injury from rocks and roots. They are my new preferred shoe. Plus, they’re snazzy!
These shoes are incredible. Durable and and very comfortable. Definitely recommend theses shoes for any trail run or flat surface runs. Very smooth trail run since you won’t feel any rocks while running.
These shoes are excellent options for running. They fit comfortable and have decent support.
Although it is a light weight trail running shoe and I did get the size 12 it turned out to be a little heavier than I thought they would be. I purchased it with racing in mind and have a few other trail running shoes just as light or lighter. I took them for a 8 mile trail run right out of the box and found them to be quite comfortable.
Fits slightly large on me compared to New Balance.
I’ve just finished a 90km 3-day trail race in the Andes (Patagonia) , and wore these shoes. Very comfortable, good traction (ground mostly dry), and dried very fast after crossing rivers or getting into lakes. Protection worked great too, I kicked a root at full speed going downhill and my foot and shoe were ok. I did land on the ground 😀, just a few scratches. Great product, would buy again.
Nothing stops these shoes. I held my breath when I clicked buy and finally let it out this my. These are PRICEY shoes, no doubt. I have more trails than asphalt roads where I live, and I knew I need appropriate shoes.Gravel - I hardly feel or notice the rocks underneath. There’s a stiff plate in the sole that protects against rocks bulging.Mud - The shape of the lugs on the sole provides grip, but also attracts clumps of mud. This shape here also makes it easy to scrape off, which is better than a hiking boot with more intricate lugs.Rain - Just came back from a rain storm run this morning and my feet were dry! And that says a lot because damp socks are a killer when you have 5 miles to go. The outside of this shoe has a coating at puddle level to shield from water, and the rest of the material is water resistant.Weight - For what it does, this shoe is as light as a feather. If you’re looking for a gravel shoe, you can’t get better than these!
Nice looking, very light shoes. I wish they would have worked for me, but the toe box was not wide enough for me and the length was a little short. I am averaging around 1500 miles/year. I am used to wearing Asics trail running shoes, but they no longer produce the gel venture 6. The updated gel venture series trail shoes are much cheaper made so I am looking for a replacement. Believe it or not I ended up with a pair of Skechers, but have yet to put enough miles on them to rate.
