Detailed Review

The ASICS Men's GT-1000 6 excels in providing an outstanding balance of support and comfort, making it a suitable option for both novice and seasoned runners alike. The I.G.S technology ensures that your foot moves through its natural motion cycle seamlessly, which can be particularly beneficial for those who may experience discomfort during long runs.

Additionally, the SpevaFoam midsole contributes to an impressive bounce-back effect, enhancing overall energy return with every step you take. The Rearfoot GEL technology serves as a vital feature that effectively mitigates the shock experienced during high-impact activities, allowing you to enjoy a smoother ride.

From a fit perspective, the lace-up closure provides a snug and adjustable fit, while the ComforDry Sockliner promotes moisture management, keeping your feet cool and dry throughout your run. This shoe is built with mesh-synthetic fabric that not only offers breathability but also durability, ensuring they withstand regular use.

However, potential buyers should be aware that some users have reported minor sizing discrepancies, so trying them on before purchasing is advised. While these shoes may not offer extensive arch support for individuals with particularly high arches, they remain a solid choice for regular training and recreational running.

Virtually identical in many respects to the GT-2000 V4s; a bit narrower, overall a great shoe so far!

I have been running with Asics shoes for 25 years. I have tried many brands, and keep coming back to Asics for the most consistent fit that has left me relatively injury free (no small feat for a 6'2" 200 pound runner in my mid 40s!). I have battled a few injuries, and rest (along with come Cortisone shots) have done the trick when combined with good new shoes. So I'm coming from the GT-2000 series, version 4. My toes have always tended to wear little holes in the sides of the shoes, so I've gone to a 2E size and that has worked well. Sometimes it felt like the toe box was too big, but maybe my foot is just a little wierd. After going through 5 pairs of GT-2000 V4s, apparently Asics no longer has any of my size remaining, so I have to step up to something newer (rant: I wish they would just stick with one design for many years, but I won't get off on that tangent). I could not find any shoes online that fit that were under $120, so I decided to try out the GT-1000 series V6 which happens to be available for me (11.5 2E). I have used GT-1000s in the past with great success, but got hooked on the excellent GT-2000s. By the way, I DO sometimes get or discounted items to review, but I absolutely had ZERO discount on these. After unboxing and seeing the bottom of the shoe I immediately thought it looked REALLY familiar. Sure enough, when compared next to my GT-2000 V4s, the bottom is virtually identical. As in they did a copy / paste when doing the design. Not a problem as I LOVE the design, but you probably aren't getting anything groundbreakingly new. After more comparison, I realized that despite the sizes being identical on paper, the toe box is at least 1/4" narrower on my new GT-1000s versus my old shoes. So beware; you probably should consider going up a size width if you are used to running with Asics. The actual fit and function is excellent. Honestly it feels VERY similar to the GT-2000s, but maybe is an ounce or two lighter. There is a "stability" insert in heal so it still works well for me (I have some mild pronation issues). It cushions well and feels great. The upper part of the shoe feels like they shed some of the support that was built into the GT-2000s, but so far that has not bothered me (in fact I prefer the new feel; feels like I am almost just running in socks that have soles). The only question I have is whether these will hold up; I have had good luck overall with the brand, so I assume I will get 6 months or so of use from them (500+ miles). But if not you can be sure I will provide an update to my review.Bottom line, these are similar to the GT-2000s (just a bit narrower, but has a VERY similar bottom sole; see photos for old versus new). For the price, so far I think I have managed to still find great shoes for under $100. Not cheap, but I would not consider going to any "lesser" level of shoe if you are a serious runner and want to avoid injuries. Thanks for reading - now step away from the computer and go run some miles!

Simple, good, running/walking shoe. Black color is 'different' but nice.

I'm 190+ lbs. Long time medium distance runner with a few marathons in the past. Older now and more regular walk/jogger. These fit me well in 1/2 size larger than I used to order in Asics Kayano (4E width). Maybe my feet are bigger these days, dunno. They are stable but not as cushioned as Kayano...a bit stiffer and harder riding, but this is fine for me now. I ordered a second pair in a different color. The all black look is a bit strange in running outfits (great for tactical team) but I'll like it for when they wear and become walking or TV watching shoes. They will look great with black jeans.Good value for aging or less picky runner/walker.

NARROW compared to v5

Speaking only for the 4E, these are far more narrow than the version 5 I linked above. I would suspect the D and 2E will also run narrow, so I would recommend people with normal feet start with 2E or 4E and see if they need something more narrow. For people with bunions, look for something with a wider toe box or the version 5 GT-1000 which are basically the best shoes ever. These run the same length as version 5, but about a half size larger than version 4 and earlier (which is to say these run on-size, those ran small).I am very impressed with the design of the ankle padding. It closes around the ankle like trail running shoes, but is soft enough for everyday wear. So if you're interested in outdoor sports these might be a great option.

Great shoe...for me at any rate.

I've been wearing the GT-1000 line for years. They are the only running shoes I've found that work well with my funky gait to keep my Achilles tendinitis in check. These shoes fit narrow, which is perfect for me as I have very long, narrow feet (14AA). The stability, cushion, and flexibility are also very nice. I run 20+ mi/wk and these shoes work much better for me than the GT-2000's that everyone is mentioning. All this being said, everyone's body is different and will need different attributes in a running shoe for optimum performance. While these shoes are great for me, they may be completely wrong for you. I only buy these online because I know from personal experience these are good shoes for me. If you're looking to change it up, do it right and go to running store with trained professionals to measure your gait and stride to get the right shoe options for you.

Very durable shoe, fits well and helps with over-pronation

Great running shoe. This is my second pair in a row of ASICS and the first time for the GT-1000. These are great for me--comfy, lightweight and quite durable too. I have a slight over-pronation and these shoes were designed to compensate for that and do a great job at it. It's almost as if they were designed for me. The size 12--which is what I wear all the time--fit perfectly. My foot is slightly narrower than normal and these had an excellent width for me and were neither too loose nor too tight in width. ASICS is the only shoe manufacturer that has styles for over-pronation, under-pronation, and normal pronation and I'm seeing the benefits of having shoes that match your unique situation.

Great Running Shoes (Repeat Purchase)

One year ago I bought these shoes while training for a half-marathon on a recommendation of the Asic's brand by a friend of mine. The price on these shoes is fantastic (a little over $60) and the quality of the running shoe is also fantastic! The shoe is slightly narrow but very comfortable. I purchased a half-size up from my regular size and they fit perfectly. These shoes were my primary day-to-day walking shoes as well as my primary running shoes (and I run regularly). They lasted a solid year before the tread on the bottom started to get pretty thin. (see the comparison pics below)If you're looking for a great, durable, running shoe for a low price, I'd recommend the GT-1000 6 for sure.
