A hiking boot that fits like a great running shoe. Incredibly light and comfortable. Highly recommended. Replaced an old leather pair of vibram soled shoes that weighed twice as much and happy I made the switch
Imagine this:I've never been a walker or hiker in my life. I'm a warm weather person. I was invited to hike the South Kaibab trail the last week of December. My goal was to find a hiking shoe. I spent almost 5 full weeks of trying on all kinds of hiking boots/shoes. I would put them on and know within a few minutes to a few hours of wearing them around the office or house that they weren't going to work.My last gasp effort. I decided to try the Altra's because they are zero drop and I usually wear barefoot shoes. These show up and I try them on... they fit like a dream but I thought the material was weird. But they fit like a dream... and after walking around the house for an hour, I knew that I had to try them. Here's where it gets crazy! I get up on a Saturday morning, it's 25 degrees and snowing. But I am on a timeline (goal driven) training schedule for this South Kaibab hike. I put on my gear, put these Altra Loane Peak All WTHR Mid 2 Trail running shoes for the first ever hike in them. I walk out the door and show back up 10 miles and 3-1/2 hours later. I'm stunned... my feet did not have any blisters or rub points.... NONE! Andy the stayed dry and warm through the entire hike. It was cold! I did stop at about the 7 mile mark to tighten them up a bit as they had stretched just enough to need snugged up again. So, here's a novice review of these things. No idea what durability will be, but for right out of the box, throw them on, and hike 10 miles the first time wearing them, these are unmatched in my experience!
I use these when I ride my Mt Bike--the low profile works great, and the mid hi cuff comes in handy to protect when one gets into tight spots. Being waterproof is great too, as I ride in some single tracks that get damp with the morning due.I have a wider forefoot, and a narrow heel and these boots fit great.
I have been wearing the ALTRA Men's Lone Peak All-wthr Mid Sneakers for over a year. I like them A LOT! I've worn them in all kinds of weather, from below freezing to 100 degrees. I've forded streams and worn them in rain. They fit my feet perfectly! I grabbed other pairs, while on sale, since I expect to be wearing them for years! Just wish the soles were a little longer lasting.
I have lone peaks 6 trail runners, both regular and WP, and I love them. Tried these but it appears Altra has shrunk the toe box. A shame because they are light and otherwise felt comfortable. Had to return them and go back to my Topo Trailventure 2WP ( sturdier and heavier).
I work on concrete 10 hrs a day and my feet are always in pain! Thanks to this boot after 10 hrs on my feet no pain!
High quality. Lightweight. Comfy. No distracting arches and bumps and such in the footbed. Lots of toe space. Can lace them up or skip the top loops for more mobility but equal water protection.
I have owned 6 pairs of ALTRA Lone Peak mid trail runners prior to buying these. Up till now the best hiking boot/runner I've ever owned. With the old version of these I literally pulled one pair out of the box and hiked 487 miles without any break in and no problem. This new design is a tighter more narrow fit and quite uncomfortable. I tried to break them in but it's no use after a few weeks they are still useless.
