When assessing the ALTRA Men's TIMP 4 Trail Running Shoe, there are several key categories to consider:
Comfort: The cushioning provided by the Quantic midsoles is remarkable. You’ll find that even after hours on the trails, your feet remain well-supported and free from discomfort. This is a significant advantage for those tackling long-distance runs.
Traction and Stability: The MaxTrac outsole is a standout feature of the Timp 4. Whether you're running uphill or navigating steep descents, the shoe offers superb grip, allowing you to maintain focus on your path instead of worrying about slipping.
Fit: The FootShape toe box encourages a natural foot position, which can reduce fatigue during extended runs. However, those used to a more traditional narrow fit may need time to adjust.
Durability: Constructed with robust materials, including leather for the outer layer, these shoes are built to withstand the elements and tough trail conditions.
Overall, the ALTRA TIMP 4 is an impressive option for trail enthusiasts looking to enhance their running experiences through superior design and functionality.

I love atras and their timps. They only last 300-500 miles though. They get beat up quickly, I don't mind because of the comfort and how my great my feet feel in them.
So I have been wearing only ALTRA for almost 10 years now. I’ve owned almost every type, including their dress shoe, which I miss very much and wish they still made it. Anyway, this is about the TIMP. This shoe is outstanding and to me. It is much more comfortable than the Olympus and the lone Peak. I know it’s supposed to be the shoe in between, but I believe this is the superior shoe in my opinion. I wasn’t sure about the tongue when I first got it because it’s an odd shape and I figured that the low socks that I wear it would bother it, but it doesn’t rub my ankle or leg at all. It feels like there is extra cushioning in the shoe which is nice for comfort in long walks. To be perfectly honest after my last pair of shoes that I bought from ALTRA I was almost done with them. The Torins I bought fellas parts so fast. That I was sure they were my last pair. But I needed another pair and I decided I love this brand so much that I was going to give them another shot. And besides, I have yet to find another shoe that fits me as good as the. ALTRA do. I cannot heap enough. Praise on how much I like this shoe and the size fit just as expected. These are the main thing I wear now walking or just going out in public. I have a pair of Escalante’s that I really like as well and I believe they are starting to get a little bit jealous because they don’t get worn as much. I am not a podiatrist I am just a blind guy who likes to walk with my elderly mother and do a 5K every day at least. I want to tell you I wore art supports most of my life because of my super flat feet and since I have been wearing. ALTRA I have not worn and arch support sense. I hope this review help you in your search for a new shoe and if this is your first time with this brand, I hope you enjoy it. Happy trails.
Although I love my Altra’s, this is my second pair, I can’t remember that the soles are going that fast. I only walked 132 miles in these since the first of October and the soles are getting ready to be gone! Now I am slightly over 6’3” and weighing a marvelous 285lbs, so that could be an excuse but my other shoes lasted over 260miles over the time period of a year and had to be replaced but not of the soles but the inside of the heels got worn out. Maybe the latest pair never had time to cool down enough 😜.
It is supposed to be trail shoe. I have two different colors of these that I wear as an everyday shoe. Very comfortable.
I have bought and loved a number of Altra shoes over the years but now I'm not going to buy them anymore because their quality has fallen has gone to pieces...literally. These came out of the box very nice looked great and were comfortable, but within the first mile of my run a piece of sole fell off. It must not have been glued on properly. They must lack reasonable quality control!
The heal cup in this shoe felt very soft and I didn't feel like my heal was locked in. Would not use going up heal or any serious hiking trails. The toebox seemed narrower than other Altras in size 11. I'm 6'2 220lbs. Have multiple other Altras, this one seemed a bit off. Returned - try before you buy.
Great shoe
In nearly all other shoe brands I am a 10.5 in men’s. After a couple years of ordering Altras, I learned that I usually wear an 11, but in these I really should have ordered an 11.5.
