My husband has a hard time keeping shoes from falling apart as well as keeping the toe unsmashed in. These shoes work wonders.
Narrow shoe, hard insoles. I have worn other regular (non-work shoe) Merrells, and assumed these would be comfy and supportive while being a non slip protective work shoe.I tried these on after an 8hr shift, so I could see what my tired feet would think of them. Wow. No. Not at all what I expected. Not cushioned and not very flexible. Very narrow. I usually wear a more narrow shoe than regular men’s shoes, so if it’s too narrow for me, something is not quite right.I would just like to find a decent looking, supportive, comfortable, non-slip shoe for bar and restaurant work. These were plain enough to not be too incredibly ugly, so I took a gamble. Way too stiff to be wearable.
The style and the fit
Got these with a voucher through work. I have Merrell Moab GTX 2 boots, which I love. I am a delivery driver and thought that these would make for a great option for all that running around.Wrong, couldn't be more wrong. The toe box is too narrow for much more than sitting or standing in. Blisters, calluses, you name it, these shoes gave it.As far as arch support, there is none. If anything, the foam soles deform in all the wrong ways and form pressure points that lead to all sorts of gait issues. And if that wasn't enough, they don't breathe at all. If you're active, and your feet sweat, that moisture isnt going anywhere until you take these things off. Borderline trenchfoot conditions. If you wear anything less than a full cushion hiking sock, forget it, your feet are going to prune.I spent nothing for these and still want my money back.Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Having bought and enjoyed many Merrell hiking and walking shoes in my 10.5 size, I bought these with the expectation of comfort and durability. This model would not be a hard core hiking shoe but should have been a reliably comfortable country walking shoe. I wear normal width shoes. Unfortunately, the tow box in this model is too narrow. In addition, the hard toe configuration is quite uncomfortable when walking on an incline both up or down hill. The construction of the shoe looks to be excellent as expected from Merrell. Be sure to consider width and the (unnecessary?) hard toe before ordering.
