Florsheim....you can't go wrong.

Although I've worn Florsheim's my entire adult life, I shopped around before opting for the Lexington Wingtips. I considered going with Florsheim Imperials but they're just a little too pricey as were the Allen Edmonds. With that in mind, I considered a pair of Executive Imperials (knock off brand) but ultimately went with Florsheim's because it's a name you can trust. I'm glad that I did because these shoes are so very comfortable right out of the box and once 'broken' in you'll wear them daily without complaint. Bottom line, the Lexingtons are quality built shoes, attractive and comfortable at a reasonable price. I wish everything were this simple! One last thing...wingtips equal timeless fashion - no one will ever know they're not Imperials unless they see the bottoms, even if they do they'll probably think you have great taste with a frugal personality!

Odd fit

The shoes seemed to be just what I wanted. Looked like a well built pair of wing tips like I usually wear. I wish they fit correctly.I know that I struggle to find shoes that fit since I'm a wide (EE) foot. With everything going online, I can't find wide shoes in stores anymore. This was my first attempt at ordering shoes instead of buying in store. I pulled them out of the box. I put on fresh dress socks. Unlaced the shoes and couldn't even get them on. The opening was so small, it seemed like it was still laced. I got a shoe horn and tried since I thought maybe it was the shape and stiff leather. Barely got it on and went to the next. Once both were on, it felt like lacing them up made no difference to the fit. The shoe was loose on my foot and I had a lot of heal lift. I only took 5ish steps to my room and walked right back to the couch. It that short distance I knew I would have terrible rubbing and blisters. I gave the 4 stars because they looked very sharp and well built. And I know I have odd sized feet. But I used to always go into a store and find wide shoes that fit. So my guess is this brand may not be good for wide feet, but maybe great for a more "standard" sized foot. That was the reason I took off one star.

Pretty good for cheap wingtips!

I think these shoes get bad reviews because people expect too much from them. I bought a pair of these in brown three years ago and they finally bit the dust last week. Here's the positive bit: They lasted very long as one of my casual pairs of shoes in rotation typically with one or two other pairs. They got reasonably heavy use and lasted for three years with primarily cosmetic issues. Some of that time I lived in an urban area and walked a lot. The brogue on them is attractive imo, despite the pebble-grain leather that I'm not really a fan of. They have an elegant shape for a shoe at this price. The laces were resilient. The negative: They are inexpensive and they did fall apart. And they can't really be/aren't worth repair. The heel is made of a pressed, processed wood material, probably cardboard. They top caps are glued on and prone to fall off. This is what happened to mine. After the top caps are gone, the rubber heels wear down rapidly. They also have thin insoles, so they aren't the most comfortable shoes in the world. The insoles will start to deteriorate after heavy usage, but still remained in one piece until the bitter end for me.This was my first pair of grown-up shoes (TM), and if I had known more about shoe maintenance, they would have looked even better, though they aged fairly gracefully. I would have gotten shoe trees. Since I didn't have any, one of the toes became depressed. The other one got dented in when I got in a fight at a party, so I can't really blame the shoes for that. I also didn't bother to do any conditioning or take care of scuffs, so they started to look pretty grungy.By the time the soles started coming apart, they started to feel like a part of me! This aren't the best shoes ever, but they're a great, attractive inexpensive pair of wingtips and probably a great started pair. One of my friends bought a pair of ugly, boxy, Stacy Adams wingtips that tore immediately as his first pair and that's when I knew I had made the right decision. Since they are cheap and mass-produced, YMMV, but definitely worth a try in my opinion.

They don't make them like they used to.

I had an identical pair of Florsheim wingtips for years and years and years. When the time finally came to retire them, I didn't hesitate ordering the same shoe in the same size.Sadly, they fall far short of what they used to be.They fit fine, wore in nicely, and then they just kept wearing down. After about a month of regular use (a work shoe that was in service any day that wasn't a brown day) the deadly squeak began. I thought I had done something horribly wrong until I read the other reviews with a similar problem. Not a little squeak, mind you. A looong, grating, old-door-slowly-opening-in-a-horror-movie squeak. It was plainly embarrassing to wear them. And they just started looking like garbage. Creases are to be expected, but they multiplied and deepened and even started flaking a little with remarkable speed. The sole was already wearing down to the lining after only a few months. Even without the noise they were not long for this world.Which is too bad. After six months they looked worse than my previous pair had after six years. Eventually I sucked it up and shelled out for a pair of Allen Edmonds, and found the quality I missed.Sorry to see you go, Florsheim.
