Size-wise: I can wear 9M in various styles of Clarks and other brands, such as sandals, flats, sneakers, and round-toe boots. Lately I've been trying various boots where I needed a 9W to accomodate the more almond-shaped toe (for instance, wide calf riding riding boots). So I got the 9W with these. I couldn't tell from the photos whether they were round or more pointy. They felt too clunky, and I kept wanting to put in a light arch support insole for more structure and to snug up the space. That's why I ordered a 9M for comparison. Trying those felt better, and I was able to appreciate how lovely the boots are.I did try the 9M with a different, thin foam insole to give some extra padding, and I woud keep those in there. There is a little height to the heel and the sole could use more structure to accomodate for this; as-is, I found it a bit flat. Overall, as someone who doesn't wear heels or wedges with a steep slope, and I decided that these will be great for dressier outfits. All that said--I have a somewhat wide foot, but I don't wear wide width shoes other than boots. I find them too loose, particularly in the ankle and heel. If you need a true width shoe, I would try the W. If you're in between, like me, I'd suggest going with the M first.Workmanship-wise, I did find some a long thread caught in the zipper pull of one shoe. It had not unraveled from anywhere on the shoe, so I'm assuming it was just a manufacturing thing. A snip with scissors did the trick. Besides that, I ordered the suede version and was happy with the quality.I agree the suede will need to break in and the laces should be loosened. I may even replace the laces with something a bit thinner. But, to me, the shoes felt fine for sitting and walking. I always need gentle ankle support with any shoe that's not evenly flat, so I appreciate the structure of the boot. Perhaps the other leather style is noticably stiffer, based on other reviews...I can see why that could be an issue with the shaft height.
These are cute and comfortable. Although the material, which I thought was supposed to be suede, was a bit ruined due to the rain drops. The boot still has the rain spots on it. But I am keeping them because they are comfortable to walk in.
For boots that are supposed to have comfort soles, I was very uncomfortable wearing them on gravel environments. I suggest insoles.
I'm a boot lover and I love these boots.
Very uncomfortable shoes. I returned them the same week they arrived in person at the UPS store and despite that Amazon hasn't refunded my purchase! A size 10 (what I normally wear) feels a little big, but a plus is I will be able to wear warm socks with them. There is a side zipper that allows me to put on the boots each time without tying. The boots do hit the shin higher than my previous pair of boots did, but I barely notice.I am annoyed with how worn these look after wearing them twice. There are scuff marks on the side, and very visible creases. I wear them while working with children and I bend or crouch down often. My other boots didn't look worn as quickly, and lasted me almost five years.
Love them! So comfortable
I bought these in a 9.5M and a 9.5W in the black and the dark tan. Unfortunately there were too big. I recently purchased a pair of Clarks boots that are slip-ons with a short heel, and had to get a size 10 to fit. So sizing is not consistent between styles. I really love Clarks, they have lots of attractive shoes and these boots were beautiful, they just didn't fit me.
