Cat (Catapillar) shoes and boots are by far the most incredable, long lasting, well made and comfortable boots I have ever owned! This review will tell you why. An employee at an army navy store in Engelwood Colorado told me that Cat boots are the best made boots they have sold in over 30 years in business and they sell a lot of different brands of boots. I've worn this shoe most days in the fall and winter for three and a half years now. The sole is only about half way worn. The upper leather is extermly durable and still in good condition. I finally, after three years, I had to have a shoe maker stich about a 3/4 inch stich on one of the shoes. Nothing else was wrong with them. They are still going strong five months after the repare. I bought another pair of the same shoe to wear when my current pair wears out. Two years after I bought the second pair, I am still waiting for the first pair to wear out, so I can switch to the second pair. That's incredable that the first pair is still going!! I also own two other styles of the cat boots besides this shoe. One is like a hiking boot style. The other style is an above the ankel style boot. The three styles of the Cat boots I have were all comfortable from the first day I put them on. On the three different styles, I did not have a "break-in period" of several weeks after I bought them, like I had to do on other brand boots that were more expensive. Cat is very careful on the way the boots are made. A Cat's customer service rep. told me that when I called them. The two boot styles I own are just as incredablly durable and comfortable as this shoe is!!! I bought this shoe about four years ago. The other two styles of Cat boots are both about five years old. I have worn the hiking boot style over a hundred and fifty times to go hiking and in the snow. Some of the hikes were three day hiking/camping trips in the mountains of New Hamshire and Colorado above tree line on jagged rocks. The hiking boot style sole is not even half way worn down yet. The lether upper is incredably durable, still in good condition and none of the stitching has come apart. Some of their shoes and boots have composite toes, NOT steel toes. A composet toe is much better then steel toe. Steel toes looses wormth quickly. Composite toes holds in warmth much better. The sole to my above the ankel boot is also less then half way worn after having it for about five years and wearing them at hundreds of times. The upper leather is incredably durable "full grain" leather, too. None of the stitching has come apart on this boot, eather. All their boots will last you many years, like mine have.
I rarely give out 5 stars, but these shoes deserve it! From the minute I put these on to the ~6 months today, these shoes have been super comfortable compared to other similar work shoes. The laces are solid, the overall build is solid and sharp looking. The fits was exact for my feet. I couple these shoes with Copper Fit insoles to make a perfect pair of work shoes. I generally work 4-5hrs on flat surface warehouse concrete. With ANY shoe, the 5th hour gets to be a bit uncomfortable for feet, but these shoes have been by far the best of three other's I've tried. I will never buy any other brand of work shoe, so long as they don't make any changes to these! These also have great grip in wet and snowy conditions when needing to shovel snow or what have you.
These are rugged shoes with a great look. I wear them for office work that occationally takes me outdoors for construction site visits. They are stiffer but I see how that can be valauable if you are using them as a work shoe outside or in construcction setting. Since they are stiff, getting a good and reasonably tight lace up takes a little more effort. I feel like I am still breaking them in after three months. I'm sure they would break in faster if they were getting heavier use as intended. I ordered the 10.5 as I do with all my shoes. One shoe is a little snug in the toes. My feet are not the exact same sizeand I have a typical "greek foot". Fitting me in shoes takes some effort and every now and then I find shoes tight on the toes on one shoe. I find myself wanting to like them more than the fit allows so I knocked off a star, otherwise they would have got five stars.
I replace my shoes at least once a year I have bought at least 15 pair. I have even bought them for my son over the years. Light weight with composite toe and no slip. They never fail just normally wear out from use.
I gave them five stars because they comfortable, light and stylish. I got these shoes for long hours standing as a bartender. Most servers and bartenders get their shoes from walmart because they are a cheap source for non-slip shoes. But they are all poorly made and usually crap out after two-three months. These CAT shoes are your answer. Most people would look at these and only see construction or outdoors shoes. But they are perfect for being safe behind the bar or in the kitchen of a restaurant. The composite toe is great in case I drop a keg or whatnot. The shoes look heavy, as expected withwork boots with any sort of upgraded toe but these are surprisingly light. I thought that I would have a few aches and pains from lugging the shoes around for 12 hours but no problems at all.Get these shoes if you are looking for a solution to the poor quality/joint ruining slip resistant shoes that are out there. Yea, they cost about double what those other shoes cost but I've only has the shoes for about two weeks and my knees and back are already thanking me profusely.NOTE: they do run a tad big. I'm im between a 10.5 and an 11, got a 10.5 and feel that a ten might have been a better option. But they fit just fine, but a little big (kinda hard to tell with the composite toe)
