For many years I was a professional shoe repairman, owning my own footwear and repair store so I know a thing of two about how shoes are made. There are shoes that look good and feel terrible. And there are shoes that feel good but come in last place in the looks department. Then there are those seemingly elusive ones that, like cinderella's slippers, are beautifully made and fit perfectly. These SAS Navigators are the holy grail of shoes, (for me at least). The leather is soft and supple but stiff enough to retain it's shape. The footbed provides a flat, stable platform, (I have narrow feet so that is an important criteria for me). The sole is non-skid and non-marking. It has a lot of grip and the pattern is not prone to picking up debris, which is a very good attribute. The rear collar is soft and comfortable and the leather overall is holding up well so far. In fact, the leather itself should be one of the top selling points as it is thicker and higher quality than I am used to seeing in todays footwear. Even the elastic is top quality material, allowing max stretch to get the shoe on but enabling the elastic to retract fully without getting the dreaded "over-stretched elastic ripple" on top.Personally I subject my shoes to some fairly harsh conditions in my shop. Lots of sawdust, a little glue and some occasional paint overspray. These shoes clean up VERY well. The finish on them is very durable and top notch. The only thing I found a bit lacking was the relatively cheaply made insole. This however appears to be an industry standard with the idea that it can, and usually is, easily replaced with whatever favorite aftermarket insole the wearer might prefer. Caveat: To gain some additional cushion I tried adding a full length insole under the original one but it ate up too much room inside the shoe and raised the heel too high in the heel pocket. I ended up replacing the original insoles with some new ones that provide perfect support for the shape of my feet.Side Note: Because this is a mid-cut elastic gore style, placing a thick orthotic in this shoe would likely be pushing the edge of the envelope as far as fit goes. It's probably best to stick to a shoelace style shoe if orthotics are needed.Overall, this is one of the best made shoes out there. Very comfortable great support and appearance and quality
Great high quality. These shoes lasts a long time.
My boyfriend has worn this brand, style and same size of shoe for many years. This time either his feet have changed or the shoe has changed. They do not fit him as well as they always have. The good quality of the shoe seems the same. He has been wearing them for a few weeks and still needs to change his shoes midday because his feet hurt. Cannot say for sure what has changed; his foot or the shoes. He is going to continue to wear them in the hopes they eventually break in to being comfortable for full day wearing.
Top tier kitchen shoes. Nonslip is perfect. You'll need aftermarket insoles. Birkenstock sells a rig that's just right, the cork insoles they offer piecemeal. You might be bringing your own orthotics so you'd be good in that case. Only shoe I can wear at work that looks decent outside of work.
Bought for my husband. He wears a 12 W. Fit is true to size.He says that they are 'really' comfortable and a great fit.
I like SAS shoes .it is comfortable and predictable. I have wide feet and need to have slip resistant .The price is a little more, but it built well.
I've been buying SAS shoes for years. They are THE best! I'm looking forward to experiencing this new pair as this is the first pair of slip ons I've bought. I usually get ones with laces, but a friend convinced me to try slip ons. We will see if she is right!
