The Salomon X Ultra Pioneer MID CLIMASALOMON hiking boots excel in various categories vital for outdoor enthusiasts. Let's delve deeper:
Comfort: One of the first things you'll notice about these boots is their lightweight construction. They provide ample cushioning, making them suitable for long treks without causing foot fatigue. The soft inner lining complements the waterproof exterior, ensuring you remain comfortable regardless of moisture conditions.
Fit: Thanks to the traditional lacing system, these boots allow you to adjust the fit according to your preference. While the mid-cut design offers decent ankle support, it's essential to consider how it feels compared to high-cut alternatives.
Traction: The rubber sole provides excellent grip, which is crucial when navigating rocky or slippery terrain. Whether you’re scaling a mountain or walking through a muddy path, the traction holds up well, instilling confidence in each step.
Durability: With synthetic materials used for the outer layer, these boots are built to last. They can withstand rough treatment, making them ideal companions for serious hikers and casual walkers alike.
Style: While functionality takes precedence, the sleek black/magnet/monument colorway adds a stylish edge, allowing you to transition from nature to urban environments effortlessly.

The shoes look great and have excellent quality as expected from Salomon. The shoes were shipped in original packaging with all labels attached. The upper material is textile and full grain leather, not the lower-quality PU-coated leather.I have used the shoes for hiking short distances in tropical locations and they were comfortable with good grip on wet surfaces and provide very stable foothold and ankle support. There were no abrasive areas. Even in the hot weather, my feet did not feel hot or sweaty so the membrane seems to be breathable. The sole does not flex much, and the ankle area is fairly firm. Overall it provides good foot and ankle support without impacting ankle movement. The shoes require break-in. They are also snug around the toes so i suggest going for wide size shoes if your feet are wide.Overall very satisfied with the product, the seller, and the price. These shoes seem to be excellent value for money.
A friend recommended this company to me and I came across this model and purchased it for a 1 week trip to Iceland in December. It was great, and provide excellent grip support whether I was going up an incline or descending. After walking for long periods of time my foot never felt too hot or sore and uncomforable. (Perhaps because I wore these with merino wool socks). Even driving with these on was a pleasant experience as I was able to comfortably flex my foot and didn't feel so still and rigid!I would certainly recommend if anyone wants a sturdy, stylish and comfortable pair of hiking shoes!
It is a lightweight and durable hiking boot. The water resistance has held up quite well. With that being said the shoe can get a bit warm during an activity. Not as breathable as I’d hoped but still a very comfortable shoe, taking about a day to break in. It does fit snug, so wider feet may need a bigger size. The ankle support is comfortable and does help on more rugged terrain. Overall the quality and design of shoe make it well worth the price.
Great and comfortable hiking shoes that are also water proof! I’ve had a few pairs of these over the years and they stand up well regardless of how much abuse you put them through
My last pair of X Ultras got me up many 14ers, to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and through many airports and cities around the world. The Pioneer version seems just as good as the last and with maybe even better comfort out of the box. I love these. And the price for me was incredible (~$80).
Salomon is perhaps my favorite footwear. I have the predecessor of the Ultra Pioneer and liked them so much, I bought an updated pair. The new version uses Salomon’s own waterproof membrane, but I have found it to be effective for my use. These shoes are lightweight and comfortable with a nice, aggressive tread. They do run on the small side, so consider upsizing by a 1/2 size.
My husband is super difficult to buy shoes for. We have returned our fair share of shoes because the arch wasn’t supportive or they weren’t a good fit. But my husband really likes these boots. They fit well and have great arch support. They are very well made and have great ankle support as well. They are worth it for the value of the shoe! Now my husband can hike comfortably.
(I am not a native speaker, please accept my apologies on writing this comment with inaccurate grammar)I bought this pair of boots last summer during a sale and this is my first Salomon boots. At the beginning, I was satisfied with its light weight and waterproof ability that support my fieldwork in Yosemite. I also like the shape of the sole which provide excellent traction on rocky surface and dirt road, it even works on slippery rock after rain. However, these boots seems worn out pretty quickly after 7 months of intense using (probably also due to my fault on maintaining my footwear). The waterproof ability is still there and it is still very comfortable to wear them when I am birding and hiking. In conclusion, if you are looking for boots that could withstand heavy bushwhacking and intense field work, I think there might be a more suitable choices for these purposes. These boots would be great if you are looking for some high quality trail hiking and backpacking boots.Pros- Relatively light weight compared to other hiking boots- Reliable waterproof ability (but need to ensure there is no seams/gaps on sole.)- Very comfortable to wear for long period of time, nice for weekend hiking, backpacking and birding.Cons- The lace is a bit too loose, cannot tighten these around your ankle properly.- The thick padded tongue keep pushing the lace apart which may cause the lace to loose during hiking. You could only use a double knot to keep it tightened.- Not the best for bushwhacking and heavy duty, worn out pretty quick.
