I had a pair of goretex LOWAS for 15 years that carried me hiking through Ireland, the Grand Canyon, the Ozark Mountains, and hauling wood on the family farm. The sole is what gave out in the end & attempts to repair didn't work. Sadly, instead of simply replacing them, I went through a variety of other highly rated brands - always disappointed.I was talking to someone about the best pair of hikers I ever had (Lowas) and came here to see if there was a similar pair. This is the closest and already have gone through snow and ice.Sturdy. Supportive. Incredible traction. Waterproof. Warm. This is on single digit fahrenheit weather, snow & ice.I have plantar fasciitis so, I do order up a size to accommodate my orthotics but I do that with any brand. I also have bunionettes (outside of feet) which mean I need some extra space. Again, this applies to anything I wear. I didn't need to adjust the tongue / eyes spacing for me. I do wear mine tight around the ankles for stability (hikers are made for this) & they do this well.I don't know if they'll last another 15 years but they've already blown away the other comparably priced brands - again.
Waterproof but not overly hot or heavy. Boots made for moving on maintained trails or off tracking. I always order 1/2 size up in Lowa. Hiking boots should fit comfortably right from the start. I loved that these boots came so quickly as well. Very satisfied with my purchase.
After researching several popular brands of hiking boots, I decided to purchase Lowa Women's Renegade hiking boots. I liked what other reviewers had to say about them.I have been wearing them around town to break them in and I haven't been hiking with them yet. The first day took a little bit of adjusting. The right boot fit a little tight and created a pressure spot that had I been hiking in them, it would have been uncomfortable. Upon subsequent wearing, the boots stretched in all the right places, and after "hiking" in them all day on my monthly shopping trip in a nearby city, they kept my feet comfortable all day. I have every confidence that they will work well when I go on a real hiking trip in the near future.I like the breathe-ability of these boots. My feet tend to overheat quickly and more times than not I'm kicking my shoes off because they get so uncomfortable in some shoes that I wear. However, after wearing the Lowa Renegade boots all day, my feet were perfectly comfortable. These come in a variety of colors, but I chose red because that's my favorite color. These are a nice, rich red. My daughter says they remind her of tomatoes and make her hungry when she looks at them! I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but either way I'll be sure to work up a good appetite after being on the hiking trails all day.Update: I wore these hiking boots on a recent camping/hiking trip. They kept my feet comfortable both days of hiking. The second day was wet and muddy, but my feet stayed dry.
I bought these for my trip to Peru for the 4d/3night Inca Trek to Machu Picchu, I will update my review once I return from my trip. I usually wear size 8 shoes and bought these in size 8.5 based on other reviewers. This past weekend I took a trip to CO and did a hike up the Manitou Springs Incline. I wore thick hiking socks and they fit perfectly. I did not feel any pressure points and my ankle felt secure especially how steep the Incline was. I did a lot of hiking last weekend and so far so good! I am very happy with the purchased so far and these boots seemed well made and super light.I bought these when they were on sale for $179 and Amazon Prime free shipping.Update: 7/12/2017I trekked the Inka Trail, I hiked up Colorado 14ers, I hiked all over the Rockies. These boots are so comfy and provide great support that I am picking up another pair just in case they stop making them. My feet love them! They are holding up pretty well too even after a few years of abuse.
I have to start by saying I've worn nothing but MBT hikers since 2003, but now that the style has been discontinued and mine have each been resoled twice, I decided to stop putting money into old shoes and find something different. I took a chance on these. They are really well made and comfortable. I wore them right out of the box all day long and never had any issues as with most new shoes needing to be broken in first.I have one complaint and warning to others. Be VERY careful coming down stairs with these boots. It must have something to do with the way the sole curves at the start of the heel. On several occasions, the heel gets caught on the edge of a stair and I've almost fallen face first down the stairs. Now, being aware of this, I'm very cautious on how I place my feet when walking down stairs. All said, I'd give these up in a heartbeat for another pair of MBT hikers.
Best hiking boots EVER! This is my second pair...when I needed new hiking boots I knew I needed these again! I was between sizes, so sized up, and it was the right call. They fit great, are super comfy, and took ZERO time to break them in. I hiked approx 4-10 miles every day for the last 11 days straight, and these boots have held up, are the perfect balance of sturdy and comfortable, and I have zero blisters!
Arch support was poor, toe too round
These boots arrived 6 days before i was going on snowshoe/backpack trek in Jan. to cabin in Vt... I ordered a size 8 and 8 1/2. Sent back the bigger. I am size 8 usually, but thought with 2 pair of socks I may need added room. Didn't. They fit well. I did have a day of them feeling tight around the top of my ankle, even with tying and retying multiple times... but it only lasted a day. Then I fell in love with them. They have been great for our brutal new england winter this year. Have worn them every day, all day since i purchased them. Including working a retail job in them. They are light, fit well, and added bonus look sharp. Many compliments on the color, which is more of a brick. Love them, had Asolos before and thought I'd never switch... but these are great. Waterproof, warm, comfy, and roomy... HIGHLY recommend.
