I bought these after researching what would work best for me; ankle support and stiff foot bed. And these delivered out of the box comfort. Belted out a 7 mile hike in the Northwest on the first go and my feet were happy campers! Worth the price!!! Sold on the lace slides over ball bearing mechanism to tighten the front part of the boot
Well built.
I'm on my second pair of Lowa Camino GTX boots. One boot, size 14, weighs 2lb 4oz with laces and supplied foot cushion. These boots fit me well. They're roomy in the toe box, but narrow at the heel. They're comfortable out of the box and require no break-in. Stability on rocky trails and uneven surfaces is excellent. Test them regularly for water tightness. My first pair started to leak while in very good condition. Although they were five years old, Gore-tex reimbursed the entire purchase price including tax under their lifetime guarantee. As backup boots, I just bought the new Lowa Merger GTX mid, which aren't available yet on Amazon. One boot, size 14, weighs 1lb 3oz. They're comfortable and fit just as well as the Camino, but they're light duty and would not be nearly as stable in difficult terrain.
After a couple years of regular hiking, they rubber tip split away from the leather. I had this same problem with the Renegade GTX, which fell apart even faster. Most of my walks are on flat paths, and I'm only doing about 500-1,000 miles a year. The soles look fine, but the boot is just falling apart. Not worth the high price.
