Walking on clouds

I’ve been buying keen utility boots for years. With my job, I have to buy a new pair every year due to the soles wearing out, regardless of the brand. This particular variation of built in the USA Keen utility boots are the lightest pair of US built boots that they make, that I know of. They’re even lighter than the Dearborn boot! They’re also $30-50 cheaper than the other ones.So what’s the difference? They have this material on the outsole that’s lighter and more durable than rubber, and apparently cheaper. It’s also extremely comfortable. These are easily the most comfortable pair of Keen utility boots that I’ve ever worn.Make sure you wear thick socks to break them in. I wore some thinner, older socks and got a raw spot on each ankle bone, since my job is so strenuous.I really wish they’d expand the factory here and do some actual boot making. Source the materials from elsewhere if that’s what it takes for now, but bring some complex, skilled trade jobs home. Surely it’s not actually cheaper to build the boots in two different factories around the world? We have plenty of genuinely American made boots here. Keen could pioneer making modern, athletic fit boots here as well.

Overall good boot

Overall good boot. My only complaint is that these are not as comfortable as my previous Keens. That being said, these are all leather work boots and my others were mixed fabrics.

Great boots

Only nit to pick is that the laces are either too short to wrap around the back or too long if you don’t. I put on some shorter ones.Plenty comfortable, composite toe is about exactly the same weight as the soft toe (I have a pair of both).Good toe room. I’m barefoot when I’m not at work, and these boots squash the toes together much less than any other boot I’ve tried.Insoles are maybe not as good as Redwing, but if not they they are #2 in the world, which isn’t bad at all.

Very comfortable!

I decided to try these after I saw an online review that gave them high marks for comfort. For years and years I've been getting [same name as Detroit's hockey team], which are an excellent boot but they take weeks to break in, and meanwhile I'm getting blisters and painfully scraping my toe knuckles on the underside of the lacing rivets. These were comfortable right out of the box, and after putting 6 miles on them the first day my feet still felt fine when I took them off at night. They also came with some thicker laces, so I'm not cutting into my fingers with narrow ones trying to get them laced tight enough. Highly recommended!

I've Got Keen's on my Toes and This is How it Goes

First off, I should mention that I have a condition known as "Florida Feet" Well, probably not a medical condition, but that's what the guy at the outfitters called it when I was trying on shoes once. The phenomena of FF is a result of wearing sandals (Birks for me, thanks) and going barefoot all the time. This results in your forefoot and toes to relax and spread out, think of it as the opposite of foot binding. So, I look for shoes with larger toe boxes. That's how I came across Keen. Besides being made in the USA of high quality materials, they also tend to have a larger toe box. I've owned a few pairs of their shoes and currently I wear a set whenever I'm forced to wear shoes that are size 11.5. They fit great. So, I ordered these the same size and these, not so much. Maybe it's the extra toe protection. So maybe go half a size up. I was unable to swap these out, so I'm not absolutely sure that's true. The other issue I had was on the right side there is a seam on the inside where it transitioned from the eyelets on the laces to the catches that pressed against my ankle and it hurt, a lot, over time. The seam is in both shoes, but for some reason only the right had an issue. I tried a few times to get these to "break-in" but no such luck, I just ended up in pain and really looking forward to taking them off. So, the fit on these isn't right for me, but they are great quality should they fit you.

Comfy and protective!

I was coming due for a new pair of workboots and picked up these Keens. I put them on to start breaking them in as most require quite some time to truly get comfy. These Keens are very comfortable and I honestly was able to wear them all day without having blisters or difficulty with them. They can be a bit warm at times, but this is expected for a boot that you wear all day for work in the deep South.Good: Very comfy from the get-go. Cannot complain about the steel toe - protects well from basic tool drops (didn't feel it). Cannot verify beyond basic tool drops. Seem to be fairly waterproof from splashes (have not tried full lower boot submersion).Bad: Decent weight to them as most workboots. My prior work boots were definitely heavier, but these aren't exactly ultra-light either. Eyelets a-plenty --> this is standard in most work-boots, but I try not to have too many because they can be a real pain to fix once they get bent (from drops or accidental).
