Boot Model | Safety Toe Type | Waterproofing | Weight |
---|---|---|---|
Irish Setter Hopkins | Aluminum | Yes | Medium |
Carhartt 6" Composite Toe Boot | Composite | Yes | Lightweight |
Timberland Pro 6" Steel Toe Boot | Steel | No | Heavy |
When it comes to choosing work boots, safety, comfort, and durability are paramount. The Irish Setter Hopkins excels in all three aspects. Its aluminum safety toe is a standout feature, providing robust protection without the bulkiness often associated with steel toes. This makes it easier to stay agile while working in demanding conditions.
The polyurethane footbed significantly enhances comfort, allowing you to stand for extended periods without discomfort. Coupled with a steel shank, which increases stability, you’ll find these boots supportive even during the longest shifts. The HRO rubber outsole’s lug pattern delivers impressive traction, reducing the risk of slips in varied environments.
One of the key highlights is the UltraDry waterproof construction. Whether you’re working in wet conditions or dealing with spills, your feet remain dry and comfortable, which can be a game-changer in enhancing your productivity.
However, like any product, it isn't perfect. Some wearers reported needing a break-in period before achieving maximum comfort. Additionally, while the boot provides excellent protection, its weight could feel heavier than alternatives like composite toe options.
Overall, if you're seeking a reliable work boot that combines safety features with long-lasting comfort, the Irish Setter Hopkins is definitely worth considering.

These boots are the best boots I’ve ever owned . Lighter then others, warm, comfy ,keeps your feel dry, and they last as long as you keep up with cleaning and treating the leather
These boots are definitely worth the price. The aluminum toe is durable and can hold up in a work environment. They are high quality and last for a decent amount of time before they begin to wear out.(Of course depending on the type of job being done, for mechanics I recommend).
Good boots with lightweight aluminum safety toe. No quick eyelets for easy donning and doffing.
5/5 for the price, 4/5 for the shoe. No eyelets for quick tying and removing, slightly large (until you put on heavy socks as you should), and the brushed leather can crack on the aluminum toe. Fit was great, good ankle support, lightweight toe for worksite, waterproof which I need, and very comfortable. I got these cheaper then other big brands and immediately got compliments on the look and they have been quite comfortable as well. Very happy to find a compromise on quality and price with good value, will order a second pair to rotate. Probably needs longer laces
My 3 star review is based solely on trying them on as well as my experience with other Redwing products. I can not comment on functionality and durability because they ran at least a size too large so they were returned. I can say that they were heavy for a Redwing product and not very comfortable when i put them on and because of that I would have returned them even if they did fit.
I work in Hazmat and this shoe takes on everything the job throws at them.
I noticed a change in fit on my most recent purchase of wolverine multi shocks. These Irish setters are a great fit and are great at accommodating my hammertoes.I tried redwing king toe and many other popular brands. With no success. One drawback is the lack of lace hooks but I’m getting used to the regular eyelets. I’m considering adding my own lace hooks in place of the top two eyelets.Regardless if you need a spacious toe box for toes that are out of this world please consider the Irish setter Hopkins.
