These boots are amazing. Super comfortable and light. The carbide spikes are small but effective to a degree. Not a substitute for crampons but give additional grip over bare boots. Don't be overconfident with these but use them wisely. Put on your crampons as soon as you need them! Hiking on rock is OK. Great with snowshoes because they are so light.
Disclosure: I haven’t field tested these yet, but have two other pair of Icebug shoes I purchased direct from them, and love the fit and fact this is a Swedish company with great ECO standards and made in Vietnam, not China! Well padded and fit as described. These feel secure and haven’t had the opportunity to test in the snow yet, but given my sister purchased a pair in NoCal, she had ice and snow in Lake Tahoe area, and she indicated they were great!
I live in Minnesota and walk outside daily for exercise throughout the winter. I have always been able to layer-up enough to stay warm, but the slippery conditions of sidewalks and roadways was a constant concern. At least it was until a neighbor recommended I try Icebugs. Their extraordinary traction in snow and on ice has been an absolute game changer. This is the second pair I’ve purchased. I find their fit to be true to size and my feet always stay dry and warm. Highly recommended.
This is a great winter hiking boot. Great in snow and ice. The steel studs grip ice and prevent slipping (but watch out for concrete or ceramic surfaces). They are warm & comfortable and stable - lowest temp I’ve been in is about 10F so far.
I am really impressed with the practical design. I am very confident day to day on icy roads and walkways, and then walking straight inside on wet floors.The only problem is they eat laces. The design of the top eylet quickly cuts through the laces. I am lucky to go a week with breaking a lace. The eyelets are small too, so replacements are limited.If it was not for the eylet design these shoes would be a 5 star rating.
Another Minnesota resident that finds these boots essential in Winter time. My driveway is a sheet of ice (shaded by the house) and the Icebugs allow me to walk with confidence, as opposed to the Penguin shuffle)on ice. They are light weight, fairly warm, and waterproof. They are not inexpensive but then neither is a broken hip.
Works good outside but have to be careful on indoor floors as they don't have very good traction indoors especially on tile floors
