I have been looking for a good looking rugged winter boot with some serious traction to handle walking a fairly strong dog. I have some issues with bone strength and so stability on ice and avoiding a fall are particularly important to me. I had a pair of ice bug shoes that I successfully used to run all winter. I loved the steel cleats on those and felt these boots would do the job. i prefer these to just getting some external cleats as those reported sometimes fall off and I need reliable stability.I just got them and will provide an update once I have used them for a while but I am very happy with them. They are very nice looking and will look good on any hiker. (I got the brown). At first blush the sides seems a little thin and the interior seemed a little extra roomy for the size. However, the interior has a nice felt lining and since I tried them on with my indoor ankle socks, I decided to try them as the pictures suggest, with a nice warm pair of wool socks. They fit PERFECTLY with a nice pair of wool socks and with that addition they become very warm, snug and stable without being too tight. They were definitely designed to wear with some good socks. The wiggle room I had with the ankle socks was not unbearable, but I love the feel and warmth of these boots with the wool socks on. I can tell these will be my go to boots for cold and slippery conditions. I spend a lot of time out doors so I know what I am looking for. (That said, I do so for recreation. Those who work outside full time YMMV. They seem comfortable but I don't know how the foot support and warmth will be for a 9-5 outdoors). As for me, I am very comfortable spending a few hours in the woods with these and the cleats lock into the ice and give me tons of traction. Remember, ice is still ice, so be careful...but these will be way better than your standard no cleat option.
So happy with the boots. Comfortable and warm. Walk 7 miles first time out.
These boots are amazing in how they bite in and grip icy surfaces. I have a paved driveway with a substantial slope to the road that ices over at times and the city streets are no better. Beyond the grip the boots slip on and slip off very well and were comfortable to wear right out of the box. Are they more expensive? Yes, but definitely worth it. Highly recommended.
I walk my dogs every day. Generally 2 - 4 mile walks. We live on country roads (gravel/dirt w/ no sidewalks) where they are snow/ice covered from November or December through April or even May. When it gets a little warm and refreezes slips and falls get to be an occasional occurrence. I have NEVER fallen since I've owned my studded Icebug boots. I highly recommend them to anyone who is walking/hiking under similar circumstances. The boots themselves are light in weight yet keep my feet warm. I can't think of a time when my feet have ever been cold and I've been walking in 10 degree weather.
The ice cleats are perfect. Kept me from slipping and falling several times. And they're warm.
Bought for my husband. He was surprised how comfortable and stylish they are for outdoor boots. ICEBUGS do the trick when you want more traction whether, snow, ice or hiking on the trails.
These boot are totally amazing on snow and ice and give you a lot of safety in harsh conditions. The pain part if the soles are thin and there is no arch support. This makes is hard to work in these boots for any length of time at all. For me at least my next move will be to try to get an insert with arch support, and some padding on the bottom for they are more comfortable.
I live in Minnesota - we have gotten a lot of snow this past week, and a little bit of freezing rain, too. I took a walk in these boots, and did not slip at all. Really happy with these boots!
