Bought these 2 days ago, they arrived in 2 days after selecting standard shipping to Canada - amazing service! I have the arizona sandals with the regular footbed and loved them so much I wanted some clogs. But, because I will be standing in these more than walking, I decided I wanted the soft footbed. The soft footbed soles are much more plush and not entirely comparable to the regular sole. They are still supportive - that distinctive birkenstock footbed feel is there with great metatarsal and arch support - but they definitely have a lot more give to them. The leather upper is thick but soft and very comfy. The leather on the soft footbeds feels a little softer and thinner than on the regular footbeds. For those who love their birks but just want something a little more cushy, these are the answer! For those who wanted to love birks but couldn't take the "hard" footbeds, this is exactly what you've been looking for.I ordered the same size as my arizona sandals - I measure a size 10.5 medium US mens shoe on a brannock device, which according to the Birkenstock chart is a 43. But I find the 43 too large, with my toes a bit far from the end and unable to grip the toe-bar properly. So I fit a 42 regular in birkenstocks. The boston clogs fit very similar to the arizonas in terms of length and width, but the heel cup is very slightly less deep (but still quite supportive), and perhaps slightly narrower than on my arizona sandals. Because they have only one strap, they do fit looser on my low volume feet. I can wear them barefoot on the last notch, or on the second notch with regular socks. But since they are new, they will no doubt stretch, and I might have to cut a new notch for the buckle eventually. All in all a great piece of footwear. I am a recent and now devoted birkenstock convert after shunning them for years. Finally, my feet are getting the support they need, and in a handsome and comfortable package. And at the reduced prices offered here, it's a no-brainer!
Amazingly comfortable
I thought Birkenstock shoes were for hippies, and just plain ugly to boot, and it never occurred to me to try them in my youth. My plantar fascitis plagued old age forced me to reconsider and on a comfort shoe and insole buying binge I picked up a pair of these clogs. I have been wearing them around the house and out and about for four days now and my feet haven't hurt once. I have plantar fascitis so bad it had me limping by the end of the day but not in these shoes. The real test will be a day at work, but I am betting they will perform.I had no break in period. I don;t know if it was the soft footbed or what but they were immediately comfy. I wear a 9.5 womens and have sorta wide feet. I bought a 40R. They fit great. Without socks I do have to buckle the strap on the tightest setting. I don't know if a narrow would make a difference there, the footbed feels great to me on these so I'm not going to send them back hoping to get a better fit on the upper. They are clogs so a little loose is to be expected. As for looks, the leather is nice quality, I love the color and it looks like a big ol' funky clunky clog. It's not cutesy shoes but it isn't ugly either. I'm at the point in my life where I am no longer trying to impress anyone so I'm ok with funky and clunky. I'm a convert, I just ordered another pair of Birks.
Soft comfortable feel right out of the box. I did tighten the buckle for the most comfortable feel.
Guys, if you wanted Birkenstocks, buy them immediately!!
I have fairly wide, sensitive feet with arch pain. These shoes were recommended to me, but I put off buying them for a long time because of the "clunky" look. Once I realized that life is too short to spend it in uncomfortable shoes, I went ahead and got a pair of black leather Bostons with the soft footbed. Wow, I have never had such comfortable shoes. The footbed is firm but supportive in all the right places, with just the right amount of cushioning. My toes are happy with plenty of room to flex the way they were meant to. To top it off, I wore them to a busy big box store and nobody looked at my shoes, so all thoughts of being unfashionable or self-conscious in them were just silly and wasted energy. I wear a size 6 1/2 or 7 in athletic shoes, and a 36 regular fits perfectly with medium-weight socks.
Now ordering my third pair of this type of shoe, suede and soft footbed. Tried these 30 years ago, didn’t like the more rigid foot bed. However the soft footbed rocks. Have worn these for 20 hours straight with comfort, no back pain. Have a bunion that is not bothered especially with the roomy toebox. The suede is stylish and has a little give to accommodate thick winter socks. Still quality workmanship 30 years later. I also ordered the Birkenstock deluxe shoe care kit, nice for care of shoes and cork sole
