I do forest science/ecology data collection for a living, so I regularly bushwhack several miles in rough conditions every day. These shoes held up for an entire work season before the outsole wore too much and the sides started to tear open. They held up better than any hiking boot I have ever used while being much more comfortable. If you don't need the ankle support of a boot, I'd recommend using a pair of trail runners like these. The other option for this line of work is you can drop $250 for a pair of forester boots that will last several years but are very cumbersome. I prefer trailrunner tactic and these are a pretty good damn pair for the price.
This is my son's favorite pair of shoes for disc golf; this is his second pair as he wore through his first pair after about 18 months of use on the course. The tread is excellent for a non-slip experience on the tee pads and is comfortable for him to wear. When he wore out his first pair, he didn't hesitate to ask for the same shoe again for Christmas this year. It's a great shoe and a decent price for the level of quality. He plays a LOT of disc golf so these shoes get a lot of use for the money.
I bought 3 pairs of trail running/walking shoes to use as work shoes on my small urban farm. I prefer trail running sneakers for this type of work because they tend to be more breathable, lighter, and easier to slip on/off than work boots. I work 12-14 hrs a day, on my feet 90% of the time, so a light weight shoe is a huge benefit. I don’t use tractors or other motorized equipment on the farm so I’m not particularly worried about buying a shoe to protect my feet from serious injury, making heavy boots overkill most of the time. The 3 shoes I bought were these ASICS Frequent Trail Running shoes, Columbia Fairbanks Low Sneaker, and these Adidas Terrex Ax3. I bought all in size 10.5, which is my normal sneaker size, and I tend to wear size 10 in hiking/work boots. I’ve bought 2 types of Adidas Terrex sneakers in the past - the CC Voyager in size 10.5, which was my absolute favorite shoe (but the most minimal), and the Tracerocker Trail Running shoe, which fit tight in the toe box area to the point where I probably should have returned them to get a size 11.After a week of daily use on the farm, here is how these Ax3 trail running shoes compare to the above mentioned shoes. Much more rugged than the ASICS or Tracerockers, the least breathable compared to all the other shoes, good heavy duty tread, and the best cushioning between the heal and ankle. The toe box is almost too tight, but not nearly as much as the Tracerockers (but my toes really splay out so this might not be a concern for others). Also the poor breathability was kinda a bummer but it’s a bit of a trade off since these are the most “substantial” of all the shoes, making these a great choice for rugged trail hiking, or in my case, work on the farm. They don’t seem to have good arch support, but the sole is thick rubber, making them a good choice for when I’m doing construction and walking around nails/screws. Also there is extra protection around the outside footbed and a decent toecap - while not a composite or steel toe, this heavy rubber outer layer gives an extra bit of safety and I wouldn’t be too worried about dropping a moderately heavy object on my toes while wearing these shoes (think a log/concrete block/wooden post, etc). All in all I’m very happy with these shoes, I just need to swap them out for another pair half way through the day to let my feet breath a bit.
Had an oler version of these for about 10 years! Finally replaced them with these bad boys and am NOT dissapointed, very comfortable on the trails and every day activities
Quality of materials is good for today's standards. They fit good and the toe box needs some breaking before feeling comfortable. The rubber sole is also of good quality, sturdy and with a solid grip especially when hiking or walking in general. I like the waterproof technology even though I don't understand if it's the fabric or a special coating applied to it. The shoes are overall comfortable and at the moment do not need any inserts. Probably they will, the ones they come with are somewhat thin but that is still to be seen. I also wear them to work for long hours standing and walking as floor restaurant shift manager and have no complaints about.
I bought these near Black Friday and got a nice discount. But having received them, would be willing to pay full price!. They are good looking and seem well constructed. I am a Addidas soccer shoe guy but never tried their hiking shoes. These are comfortable and light and have really cool soles with a tire name on them. Plan to wear them on an international trip to a warm climate with lots of walking and so far, they are very comfortable and good for light hikes near home. Recommend them highly.
No break-in period needed. Put them on & went to work on day 1. Very comfortable, on my feet 10 hours a day at work, climbing ladders, crouching down, up & down stairs and walking on inclined surfaces. Great traction and durability so far. I usually burn through a pair of sneakers every 8-10 months from the work I do, hope these last that long at least because so far/ so good.
I recently purchased a pair of trail running shoes that have proven to be incredibly comfortable and durable. The cushioning and support they provide make every run feel like a breeze, even on rough terrains. The shoes also offer excellent traction, ensuring stability and confidence during my trail runs. Additionally, the durability of these shoes is impressive, as they have held up well even after multiple runs and harsh conditions. I highly recommend these trail running shoes for their exceptional comfort and durability, making them a reliable and long-lasting investment for any avid trail runner.
