Preparing for back-to-back trips to remote locations around the world and I needed footware that would hold up in all-weather conditions. I decided that cost was no object because I couldn't risk blisters and leg fatigue so I started by purchasing the best name brand hiking shoes.First, I tried Dansko Paisley but they were much too heavy. RETURNED. Next, I went with Oboz Sawtooth X but they were extremely rigid and uncomfortable right out of the box. RETURNED. I thought "3rd time's the charm" and tried Keen Targhee 2, hoping for the best. The Keen's were admittedly comfortable but bulky...and ugly! It felt like I was wearing clown shoes. They had to go back.Less than 2 weeks before I departed for Jordan and Egypt and I still had no hiking/walking shoes. Panic began to take hold. I needed to think outside the box. So I turned to Skechers for a solution. I have always liked Skechers but wasn't sure how they would hold up under extensive daily use or in cold/wet conditions. I decided to take a chance and it paid off!The stretchy uppers confirm to the foot like Isotoner gloves. Heaven! Memory foam insoles combined with lightweight gel insoles (purchased separately) offered all day protection against fatigue + adequate arch support for my high arches. But did they keep my feet dry? I tromped through 3-inch puddles and endured continuous rain for 3 days straight but never felt a single drop of water. Socks remained dry and toasty warm.Expensive does not always = better. Very happy with my Skechers. Heading to Machu Picchu in 1 week and am feeling great confidence that the Skechers will see me through to the end!
I’ve worn these hiking twice now. They aren’t too heavy on my feet. I am still assessing how supportive and durable they are, as well as the grip of the sole on slippery/tricky terrain. I will update once I’ve sufficiently worn them in. So far they score high on comfort and style. I usually wear a size 6.5/7 in shoes. But the size 7 was too large for me and felt a bit clunky. I got the size 6 and they fit perfect.
I'm really tired of the soft bottoms for athletic shoes in recent years. They wear out very quickly!I am very glad Sketchers took note and changed back to the durable bottoms! These shoes are very roomy and comfortable. The only thing I wish is more cusionaround the openings of the shoes.
I love them love them.
