I wore the mid version of these for a 17 day backpacking trip and they were great with a very short break in period.I got the shorter version for smaller hikes and they're amazing. Flat laces, grippy soles, waterproof, small sizes available and on the narrow side (I wear size 5.5)The Vaya has everything I was looking for in a shoe!
Super comfortable! Other reviews said these run large so I ordered a half size smaller and they are just right for me. They have a roomy toe box and are lightweight and flexible. The material and fit around the ankle is super soft and cushioned...not stiff like some other shoes I've tried. Nice, grippy tread for varied terrain. Even the laces are nice! They stay tied and adjust nicely to tighten or loosen the fit of the shoe. They only thing left to test is the durability over time.
These are nice lightweight hiking shoes with lots of toe room and a fairly narrow heel. However, they do run very large. I usually wear 9 or 9.5 and bought a 9. At first I really liked them, but after I had worn them on a few hikes, I realized (too late) that I should have bought an 8.5, as my foot kept shifting around. I’ll continue to wear them with heavy socks, even though I bought them for summer hiking. They are not waterproof, by the way (although the boot version is).
Quality is amazing. They are so cute and comfortable. I’ve worn them hiking several times and they prove to be durable, high quality, and provide a solid grip for hiking better. They also are not too clunky I can wear them As normal tennis shoes with my leggings
I hiked 750 miles contiguously with these shoes. The bottom is stiff enough to protect my middle aged feet. The shoe held together despite being worn in all kinds of inclement weather. Obviously fit is dependent upon your own physiology, but these have a decent size toebox. I did use an orthotic in the shoe but I would do that on any long hike. I have already purchased another identical pair for the last 700 miles of the Appalachian Trail...
Love love love these shoes! Perfect for a hike, walk, or any outdoor activity. Super comfortable to walk in and wear all day. Toe box is wide enough to fit wide feet comfortably and without pinching.
I ordered 4 different hiking shoes and this one had the best fit for me. It is wide across the toes which is great for my bunions, but no slippage in the heel. Comfortable and supportive first time worn (6 mile hike).
These are a fantastic shoe. Very comfortable from the start, & especially comfortable over time as the Ortholite footbeds have broken in a bit. I can’t say enough about the beautiful color fade on the Salomon Vaya. This is actually the 3rd pair I’ve purchased. I didn’t ‘need’ to purchase more due to some type of failure in the shoe’s design or because the tread had worn down too much; it was because I wanted more COLORS lol!!! I also have a pair Vaya’s Gore-Tex that are just as breathable as this pair here I’m reviewing ;)
