I love these shoes!Ok, I needed a good pair of everyday shoes that were not overly expensive but of good quality I have another pair of Nevados that I have had for years and I really like them, so I started there. I found these, and they seemed pretty nice, and looked pretty sturdy. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but I took a chance. Well, again, I love these shoes. I have had them almost a month now and i have not been disappointed. When I got them, they were definitely quite sturdy. I started wearing them and wow, my feet felt great in them. Lots of support. The sole is very solid. As for waterproof, well, no shoe is waterproof unless it is a pure rubber boot. However, in the morning dew and light rain, my feet have been dry and warm. Did I mention warm? My other shoes, well, my feet were always cold, so this pair of Nevados, are just awesome. They haven't fallen apart yet, which one review mentioned and that made me cautious. As of now, I don't think they will. Let me put it this way, just over a year ago I bought a pair of shoes, similar style, from Bass Pro Shops. Needless to say, I will NOT be purchasing a pair of Redhead shoes from BPS anytime soon.Today, I was outside snowblowing snow (6 Jan 2017 in the northeast). It took a while, and i was walking through snow, but my feet did eventually get slightly damp, but I expected that and it was my fault. I should have used my rubber boots. However, my feet still stayed warm. Another good sign. So, to conclude with my strong recommendation:Would I recommend this shoe? Yes, very much so.Would I buy them again? Yes, and I just might buy another pair, different color in the near future.I hope this wordy recommendation helps out someone else considering this shoe. Take care.
These shoes were a Father's Day gift for my husband who has trouble finding good looking comfortable shoes in wide widths. The Nevados fit the bill perfectly. He put them on the first day and wore them all day and was amazed at how comfortable they were and how well they fit. Based on other reviews I did size up 1/2 size. The true test comes now on their durability, but they seem well made and of high quality.
After reading reviews which recommended buying half a size larger, I ordered 9.5 sized shoes for myself. My size is 9. They are however, big for me- it's only half an inch, but still, it is slightly uncomfortable. I do not want to go through the trouble of returning it and ordering a new pair. The reviews which advised buying half a size larger are not that old- August 2012 and onwards, and so while it is possible that the manufacturer or distributor received similar complaints elsewhere and took remedial action, I think this is too small a time period for that to have occurred.I give a 4 star review, because although I have some trouble with the fitting- I'm not certain that this is the manufacturer's fault. To be fair, shoes are probably better bought in-person than online. The shoes are well made, perfectly match their description, and I have worn them through several snowy/rainy days, and they were comfortable, and kept my feet dry enough. The interior of the shoe is cushioned and I had no trouble wearing them through 12+ hours at a time.EDIT (2013-12-27) : Soles of the shoes have disintegrated. First holes appeared in the sole, which progressively got bigger and finally fell apart. I observed that the soles are hollow. I have used these everyday, walking at least 1.5 miles wearing them everyday since the time I bought them. I am slightly disappointed that the soles got torn. \Reduced the rating by 1 star.
I've bought several pairs of these shoes over the years. I wear them as my evening/weekend shoes and they get pretty hard wear. I like them because they hold up well to all the building/digging/yard work that I do, much better than the other bargain brands. I also like that they don't have any metal in the lace area so that they laces don't get abraded from pulling them tight and tying them. I'm sure more expensive shoes would last longer, but I work mine so hard that they get pretty beat up so I just replace them anyway.
Saw some reviews saying these run a bit small. Wrong, at least in my case. I do have trouble getting size 13 to fit (some lasts are truly on the small side) but these Nevados Klondike low hikers fit perfectly. And, I didn't have to pay a bundle for them. They look to be well made and I'm very happy.
It is nice when a product delivers features as promised. Material is lightweight, comfortable, and stays cool when put to the test. Wore these shoes while hiking for two hours on trail with wintery mix of snow and slush. Feet stayed cool and bone-dry! Great traction on wet and dry surfaces. 2E width fit comfortably right out of the box,, which was a pleasant suprise. Overall, great value for the price. I will likey purchase again in the future.
