Great hiking shoe. I did not need to break them in which was a first for me. Hiked in AZ with friends and these shoes were great for all types of surfaces. They are light and super supportive. Highly recommended! I wear a 7 1/2 in athletic shoes and the Merrill 71/2 were perfect for me.
I love these enough to want to buy a second pair. They fit true to size, are wearable right out of the box, are very comfortable, lightweight, and are pretty grippy. My only complaint is the sides are cut high and they rubbed my ankle bumps raw. I'll have to wear moleskin until my own skin toughens up enough.
I have only worn a few times so far. Definitely easier to hike in these vs regular tennis shoes. Provides a firmer grip and they are prefect for wide feet. Nice and comfortable.
These shoes are awesome. Nice quality and definitely have the look of more of a sneaker than hiking shoe, which is exactly what I was looking for. They do run a little big, I’m usually a 7.5 and the 7 was the perfect fit. My only complaint was the first seller “BJF fulfillment” sent me two left shoes, in two different size, and l could only return them, not replace with the right pair. Ended up having to buy from a different seller at a higher cost, although Amazon did make it right when I contacted them.
I almost always have to go up a half size in merrell, but these fit right on true to size. Looks flattering, not clunky like a lot of hikers, but still sturdy. I like them.
PROS: Fit as expected. Toe box roomy enough for hiking socks. Good balance between firm and cushioned strike when striding. Colors as pictured. Probably room for orthotics or supplemental support. High back would help the seed foot in shoe which can be an issue with orthotics. Good traction from heavy duty sole tread.CONS: ARCH SUPPORT- My feet seem to ROLL INWARD, probably due to the nearly nonexistent arch support, in both the shoe construction and innersole. I have had success with prior Merrell hikers for long hikes, and while this might be adequate for a short hike, it would not be adequate for me for anything more than a short walk. The extremely high back is awkward and complicates putting them on. I suspect the pair I received had been returned given the weird lacing, and the lacing being different on each shoe of the pair.BOTTOM LINE: Though I have loved and worn out past Merrell hiking shoes, I would not purchase this model again.
I'm about a size 8 in sandals, and size 9 in hiking shoes (don't like to feel the front of it). I tried these out in stores and ordered on Amazon. And I had to get 8.5 in these, even if my other Merrell hiking boots were 9. But other than sizing, I LOVE these shoes! I wore them hiking a week in the Alps and they were amazing. Didn't need to break them in, and paired with smartwool socks I had no blisters or any other issues. They are light, have great traction, and don't come off unless you untie them. That last part is nice if you're hiking in the mud at all. I have narrow, bony feet, and some shoe laces rub the top of my foot, but not these! I also like a roomy toe box, and these fit the bill once again. I'm getting a 2nd spare pair in case they discontinue this model!
In the past I could count on Merrill shoes being the best for fit, craftmanship, and durability. Well worth the money. Now, however, I find they no longer meet any of those qualifications. I have worn these shoes maybe 10 times, and they are already poking holes in my heels from poor quality soles. I would ask for my money back, but the return option has expired. Merrell has lost a long time customer, if that matters?
