When it comes to comfort, this shoe excels thanks to its Kinetic Fit BASE removable insole, which provides excellent flexibility and support tailored to your foot’s shape. Additionally, the molded nylon arch shank contributes to stability, especially on uneven surfaces.
One notable feature of the ALVERSTONE is its Merrell Air Cushion in the heel, which significantly aids in shock absorption. This feature is crucial when traversing rocky terrains, as it helps reduce strain on your joints over time.
The lightweight EVA foam midsole further enhances comfort, allowing you to maintain energy levels throughout your trek. Moreover, the protective toe cap safeguards your feet against accidental impacts, making it a solid choice for rough trails.
On the downside, like many hiking shoes, the Merrell ALVERSTONE can require a break-in period. Additionally, while the shoe comes in an attractive Lichen shade, the limited color selections may not appeal to everyone.

The shoes are true to fit and very comfortable to wear. They turned out to be a wonderful shoes for the price.
I like the fit, the comfort, design, tread, and they are durable.
The footbed in these shoes are awesome but the top section is slightly uncomfortable and will take a little breaking in. Merrill shoes are always really good. Just a little breaking in with this pair.
They are just what I wanted and needed for supporting my feet. I have bought them before several times and they fit perfectly.
I had my last pair of Merrell shoes for over 3 years before they started tearing. I tried other brands but none were as comfortable as my Merrells. Unfortunately the exact shoe was discontinued, so I went through all the options on amazon and ordered 3 styles: this, the waterproof Moab 2, and the All Out Blaze Aero. This one was the best all-around of the 3. I do not hike that much, but I like the support and traction for whenever I do. For the most part, these are just daily shoes for me to wear to work. So YMMV depending on your desire for the shoe. The Blaze was best for me, but I kept the Alverstone as well for winter hiking and snowy days and to prolong the life of both. The Alverstones aren't as comfy as my old ones, but they're pretty close. For comparison sake: The Moab 2 was a bit narrower and tighter feeling in the standard width and definitely felt larger and heavier. For only hiking, they might be the better option, but I returned them. The Blaze was super light and comfy, but I hadn't realized that the material was mostly a mesh which means water would go right into it. At first that was a disqualifier, but when I realized the number of times that would be an actual issue for me was very small, I decided to keep them and they are my daily shoe now.
My first pair of hiking shoes and Merrel did not disappoint. The interior cups your heal and the sole envelopes the foot for stability. The non slip sole is awesome for all terrains. Excellent choice
I normally have no problem with Merrill's fitting and being comfortable. These must have a higher arch than usual. The material is really stiff, too.
