When it comes to taking on the great outdoors, the Merrell Men's PHASERBOUND 2 Tall Waterproof Hiking Shoe stands out as an exceptional choice among hiking enthusiasts. The first thing you’ll notice is its robust leather construction, which not only provides a stylish look but also ensures longevity against wear and tear. The waterproof capability is commendable—keeping your feet dry during unexpected downpours or stream crossings enhances your hike dramatically.
An integral part of this hiking shoe's design is the Vibram Megagrip outsole, allowing you to maintain traction across diverse terrains, whether you're on rocky paths or slippery mud. Many users rave about the confidence they feel when navigating steep inclines or uneven ground, attributing this to the excellent grip offered by the outsole.
Comfort-wise, the Merrell Kinetic Fit Base removable contoured insole presents a significant advantage. You can adjust the fit according to your foot’s anatomy, making long-distance hikes more tolerable. However, it's worth noting that some users experienced a slight break-in period where the boots felt stiff at first—something to consider if you plan on hitting the trail soon after purchase.
Maintenance is a breeze since these boots are machine washable, a feature that many outdoor enthusiasts appreciate after muddy excursions. While they may feel slightly bulkier compared to traditional hiking shoes, the added support provided makes them ideal for backpackers who need a robust solution for carrying heavier loads.

Merrell makes great hiking boots. I use these for hunting and my only issue was the break in because I had bought my actual size 9.5 vs what would actually be cut for 9.5, which is the next size up. The break in period was a little harsh bc I had to stretch out the boot to give my feet room. Otherwise these a tough, durable and comfortable once broken in. I’ll buy another pair after these wear out.
These boots are good reliable and comfortable to wear on a long hike or just to for everyday use.
Great for hiking with a pair of thick socks, I am normally an 8.5 in womens and got a size 7.5 in mens and they fit perfectly. Nice ankle support, quality leather.
good ankle support and wears well this is my 4th or 5th pair supprised i can still buy these
Smooth transaction, from ordering to delivery. Hiking boots that are discontinued through merrell are readily available through Amazon from many different sources
I'm a flooring installer, tile and hardwood. These boots have a durable toe and NO metal eyelets for the laces that can lead to damage on the flooring materials. I've worn this boot for a number of years. I will continue to buy them.
Great boots
I've had these boots for less than 30 days and they're already falling apart. The glue that holds the toe guard on let loose around week 2, several places where the sole is connected to the leather has also stated to fail.I decided to try these for general use boots around our property straying away from my usual brand because of their reviews and similar price point. Guess I learned my lesson. As the toe section failed water was allowed to enter just above the rubber sole causing wet feet even when just walking through the damp morning grass. Anyone who's hiked knows that wet feet is extremely inconvenient and can lead to more severe problems if not addressed. These failed while walking on mostly level terrain, I can't imagine actually trying to use these for hiking boots. They would likely fall apart completely and leave the wearer hiking barefoot.Save yourself the headache and go with another brand.Luckily they are so poorly made that all this has happened within the return window.
