I have the same shoe with a lower level top. I have worn these lower level shoe a lot. I have only warn this shoe once. I bought these shoe for walking dogs on unlevel and some times rocky ground in Colorado. There are dirt trails and open fields. There are rocks sticking up form the ground. lots of small rocks. 1 to 3" rocks halve 1/2 buried in the soil. This rockie land tends to make your ankle twist. The rocks under foot can be hard or painful with a poor pairs of shoes. These shoes support your feet and ankles extremely well. They provide great support to your feet and body. They provide great feel of the ground. You feel the rocks but the sole is stiff and the rock are not uncomfortable. I walked 4 miles on my first use. I believe the shoes will provide great service as hiking shoes. Great support and confort.
I have a problem with my feet. I have a very wide foot and a very high arch. My actual shoe size is 7 1/2 5e width. You can not find stylish shoes in that width so 8 3e will also work.I have been using Merrell shoes for a good many years now, because the Moab series the cut of the shoe is wide and high from the beginning. I have just purchased the Moab 2 prime in a wide width. The shoe fits perfectly even though I have to remove the arch that comes with the shoe and put my specially made arches in it place. I used also the Merrell Moab 2 with the mesh. They also fit good but they do not come in wide. With those shoes I use an 8 1/2 M which would be 42 and it also works. I am very happy that the prime version comes in a wide width so I may purchase my actual size. I like that it is all leather, and waterproof. If I might ask from Merrell company why does this particular shoe come in wide width only in the canteen color. I believe that if in the future this shoe would also come in black in wide width, I believe that it also would be a good seller.I would recommend this shoe to all people with regular width and also wide width. I t is made with excellent quality.
I spend all day on my feet at the plant navigating a course that far exceeds anything i incounter on the trail. There well made comfortable and tough as nails. There worth every penny of there price.. and then sum.
This was the first pair of Merrell hiking boots that I have purchased and, after a week of using them on various trails, they are absolutely my new favourites. I am tall, quite heavy, and take a size 15 and these boots were exceptionally comfortable from the very first hike. I ordered my usual size and they fit perfectly over a Merino wool hiking sock. The cushioning inside the shoe works really well and softens impacts on almost all surfaces. The uppers are supple and supportive. The boots have Vibram soles and the design on this model is very effective - providing great grip in rain, on wet leaves and mud, and on slippery rocks. So far they are my new go-to boot in almost all conditions.
I wore these through late Fall, Winter and into Summer. About 10 months. I do 9500ish steps at work plus a two mile walking commute, daily. Often with vigor so I respond to the dog kindly when I get home. This shoe is light and comfortable out of the box, with great traction. I wore these with yaktrax for most of the winter and early spring, through icey and snowy conditions. This probably accelerated the wear on the sole. Yet I have never lost my footing at work.I am returning to these shoes, in fact, after a failure only two months worn, from a new brand. A gamble. And I find that I will prpbably need another pair of Merrells. I've been using these in the yard and garage hard, and they're still ok during the day.I did not expect the splits on the toes. But overall a good shoe. I'm buying another pair.
I love them. Super comfortable. Wide is truly wide fit. Laces stay laced after being tied. After I wear these out, I'm getting another pair.
After 10 days or so of light to moderate hiking in dry and snowy conditions I am very happy with this purchase. I read reviews so I ordered the 12 Wide , (New Balance 11.5 EE) which allows room for insert & thick so ks as needed.great grip up and down hill on rocks, snow & ice. Laces are fine.came as pictured. Did take a 2 outings to fully break in but comfortable from the start. Would buy again.Update after 2 months. The only defect or early wear is on the inside heal of both shoes, see pictures. Not a huge deal but surprising. I do @ 15 miles per week in them from 4,500 to 7,000 elevationUpdate after 7 months, all well except inside heel wear got worse. See picNov 2021. Tread on bottom worn off . Didn't make 12 months. Slipping on wet ground more frequently. Rest of boot held up well.
Well made, very comfortable, true to size, nice looking. I have tried 2 different styles of Timberland hiking boots, and their "wide" is more like a medium. Keen boots are truly wide if designated that but run a half size small, but I cannot order a half size larger because I wear a 12 and they, like most brands, do not make a 12 1/2. I also purchased a pair of Merrell Moab 2 Ventilators for warmer weather and they are great also with the same fit. So for me, Merrell is the way to go for this type of footwear
