Just bought my 4th pair of these Alverstone’s. I’m not a hiker or a backpacker. Just an average dude who lives an active lifestyle. These shoes do it all. From daily use standing and walking on concrete all day, to working on cars and beach trips. These shoes have consistently lasted a year for me. I replace them once the sole literally wear out. They’re comfortable out of the box even with the factory insoles. Which is highly unusual for any shoe.I’ll continue to buy these as long as I can find them. The green are my favorite color but honestly not worth the price. The tan are $30 cheaper. Opted for the waterproof version this time.
Merrill is my favorite shoe! Extremely comfortable and perfect fit. Shoe doesn’t need to be “broken-in!” The only shoe I wear and recommend!
I love the look, quality, and lite weight of the shoe but, it's not true to size. It's tooooooo small. I wear an 8.5 US and this one fits like an 8 and there is no chance it will stretch because the sides, front & back are all reinforces with rubber.
These are great shoes with an excellent sole. It should last through a lot of tough wear. The upper is made from a mesh that allows air in. Its great for warm weather but when it is cold you would probably want to choose another pair of shoes.
I started wearing Merrill several years ago as they are just comfortable. I'm no connoisseur of shoes so the fact that these were another line from what I've been buying (Moab line) really had no meaning. These are comfortable shoes and are a pair I wear only in the house. The one thing I really dislike (and it admittedly is a nit) is the pull strap at the top of the heel. The Moab line has a strap which has one end attached at the top of the heel with the other end attached about an inch down. There is always a loop to grab to pull the shoe on. These however, while there is what could be a loop, the way it is attached - one point at the top of the heel - it does not lend itself to being a loop. Seems no matter what I do, the strap does not want to separate into a loop.
Excellent shoes (I am breaking them in now) - Men's size 12M fit me well and are great for on pavement, or off road (they are not waterproof but I do not expect them to be WP). Stop reading the reviews, find your size and color, and hit that order button!
I don't necessarily NEED, these specifically for hiking, but I did need a pair of shoes I could take camping and hiking and kayaking and so on. I like shoes, and wouldn't want to use some of my nicer sneakers. I love that these are brown...it hides dirt and all that comes along with being active outdoors but still keeps them looking good. Fit my size 13 feet great. Since most good brands are pretty pricey, I've been very happy with these.
I've had 2 pairs and they broke the same way. First pair made it a while before breaking the second pair didn't do so well. Broke where the lace goes through. Made like crap.
