I tried these on at a local sporting goods store but they didn't have the half size that I seemed to need. I couldn't be happier with my online purchase! As someone else mentioned, they do fit a lot like (my) Sketchers and are very comfortable. In fact, the sizing is the same as my Sketchers, too. These are great for someone with wide feet. I would agree with other reviews that the ankle could be a bit more snug. I did find it caused some heel irritation when breaking them in (which I solved with a bandaide before it turned into more) the first time on a 7 mile hike. I attribute that to being a 2600' elevation gain in 3.5 miles, so walking uphill for quite a while where my heel had no break from the shoe. They've been awesome on the many miles since then. The sole is nice and thick which has been great for more rugged terrain, but are still fairly light shoes. Paired with a pair of Gortex dry socks, I have a pair of "waterproof" shoes, too without trying to find a wide waterproof pair. Well, my feet stay dry anyhow, the shoe not so much.
I just got these the other day, so I will update this review if anything unexpected happens during the first few months of use, but I have multiple Keen sandals, all of which are the best shoes I've ever owned, and I expect these will follow suit! These shoes have a great look, and I love the flashy spark of bright blue on the tongue and laces!! They fit like a dream. Although I can completely see how the mouth at the ankle might be a bit loose for some people, I have thick ankles and calves, and wide feet, and the 6.5M fit me very comfortably! And they are so light (especially for hiking shoes) that after a few minutes I forgot I was wearing them! I also have high arches, and these shoes have excellent support, and a thick sole with great grip and water resistance. I cannot wait to get out on the trail!! These are a fantastic deal, especially on sale for just under $50! My keen sandals have lasted me through daily wear and tear (I work outside most of the time), and are still going strong after 6+ years, and I hope for the same quality with these excellent hiking shoes. Highly recommended!
I love Keens and have been hiking in them for years. My last pair wore out, so I bought this pair to replace them; however, the heel opening in these shoes is way too large and my foot slipped out of the shoes at each step. I also bought 1/2 size down thinking that might help, but it did not. Both had t go back.
I have tried on so many hiking shoes in the last ten years, and none of them fit my feet. I am a small-boned woman who experiences pain and discomfort when I wear shoes that have high tops or are not extremely flexible. I need a great hiking shoe for my trip to the mountains. I will be hiking rugged trails and my flexible, soft shoes won't be appropriate for that rough terrain. I have toe issues and need to wear a spacer between my big and second toe. This toe box is perfect for me and the back of the shoe doesn't slip off of my narrow heal! I can't believe a found a sturdy shoe that meets both of my weird requirements and is comfortable as well. The low profile means I don't have to deal with my hatred of high-rise shoes that hit me in the front of my leg with every step. I just can't believe that I finally found the perfect shoe for me!
These shoes were not wide enough for my toes. If I were to order a next size up, they would be too long, and too large in the heel area. The shoes also did not have much cushioning in the foot bed. I had bought these for a 10 day tour, and wanted some comfortable, sturdy, walking shoes. Perhaps this is the way hiking shoes are made. I returned the shoes.
I liked the KEEN Koven shoe. The color of this shoe (Raven./Blue) is very nice. I'm not a fan of the typical brown/tan hiking boot color, so this was a nice alternative. I went on a 3 mile hike surrounded by wet slippery rocks, and let me tell you these shoes are very grippy. I did not slip once and this was after a day of downpour the day before my hike. I always wear between a 7 1/2 to an 8, so I decided to go with the 8, but they felt a little big to me. My boyfriend had to really tighten the laces for me to not slip. Yes I had thick THICK socks on too. Oh, and the laces actually hurt your hands to tighten because of the material. I'm sure the 7 1/2 would have been to small though. I guess I'll just find even thicker socks. My feet did not swell at all, even in 90 degree weather for 3 hours. I actually put gel insoles into these shoes before my hike because I didn't have time to break in the shoes beforehand and they worked well. My feet only started to hurt after 3 hours of hiking, luckily on my walk back to the car.Overall, these are a nice hiking shoe for all types of weather, but so far were only comfortable for a few hour hike, not all day.
This is my second pair of Keen hiking boots (I have a waterproof pair for winter.) I like it because it's more comfortable than any other brand I've tried. I hike for hours, and with this boot I don't get any rubbing or soreness. It has good support so you don't feel rocks on rugged trails, and it prevents you from twisting your ankle better than running-type shoes. Overall my feet feel secure, and don't get tired easily. They seem to breath well, too. I've had trouble with shoes getting too hot. Another plus is that this is the first time in years I've liked the color of my hiking boots!
These fit much like Skechers brand. I normally wear an 8 and to be safe ordered size 8.5. They fit perfect, if only just a tad bit loose around the ankles. Might just be the pair that i received. I am still chalking this up to a win because they are super cute and make my feet feel comfy the entire time. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a nice pair of shoes to go walking in.
