Kid-approved shoes which will be used for hiking and light Southern California rain. Ran big compared to adidas and ASICS.
I can get the big kid size and they fit great. I am on my feet all day and they are very supportive.
My son loves this shoes!
My daughter is hard on her shoes! If I buy anything that isn't high quality, she'll easily go through 2 pairs of shoes a season. These Keens seem to be the high-quality you'd expect from the brand and I'm confident that they're going to outlast her long enough to be handed down to her little sister. The larger sizes have a toggle closure instead of the velcro, which gives them a little bit of a different look, so be aware of that difference if you're ordering little kid vs big kid.The shoes seem durable, but are on the heavier side. That isn't surprising given the fact that they're hikers and pretty heavy duty ones at that. They were a little difficult for my daughter to get on until she'd broken them in because the opening is a little narrow and wasn't easy for her to spread open like a velcro closure would be. So far these shoes have been perfect for the wet fall weather, especially for a kiddo who doesn't like to wear boots. She's able to run through the wet grass and rain soaked ground without soaking her socks. I ordered them in a size 1 and found them to run true to size.
I ordered these shoes for my 6 year old daughter in sky captain/charisma color, size 1. They are true to size and she said they are comfortable to wear. They were advertised with a velcro strap, but came with a toggle closure instead. Fortunately my daughter said it’s her favorite part of the shoes, but younger kids may struggle with it. Keen is a brand I’ve always purchased and love. However these shoes seem to have a diminished quality. My daughter had only been wearing them for a couple days and they already started fraying near where you insert your foot. Hopefully they can hold up.
My 9 year old is wearing these size 4 keen shoes. He usually goes through clothes quicker than water. If shoes don’t rip out in the toes then they rip out in the bottom. These keen shoes have proved durable and have worn well for a few months. I’m impressed with the quality in spite of his daily wear. There have been no holes or rips and I would happily buy these again. He says they are comfortable and although they don’t have a marvel design on them - they are nice and clean.
These were ok for some light rain (more like a mist), but as soon as they got really wet, they were clearly not waterproof at all. My poor 3 yr old had to go to school all day with wet feet because it turned out these couldn't handle any actual rain.
My daughter has worn several other styles of Keen shoes without a problem. These, however, have a much more narrow toe box that squeezed her feet. The length seems accurate, but I don't recommend these unless your child has a narrow foot. The second issue I have with these is the closure. They came with a bungee cord instead of the pictured Velcro strap. We are able to get a more secure fit with either a strap or regular tie laces. The shoes look nice, other than some visible glue along the seams, and did keep my daughter's feet dry. Despite the shoes seeming good quality otherwise, they put a slippery, fuzzy coating all over the sole. This defeats the purpose of the rubber sole. Keens are usually known for their amazing grip and traction, and this is particularly strange for a shoe designed to be worn in wet conditions. This makes them seem like a more cheaply made style. These do not live up to the usual Keen quality we are used to.
