I have several pairs of Freeriders that I rotate for daily wear and bike use. From the reviews, I was expecting the shoe to be extra stiff and numb feeling on the pedals. I was also expecting them to be a little tight, as I normally wear 14's in Freeriders. They did seem a bit stiff out of the box, and we're definitely snug when I put them on at first. With that in mind, I decided to wear them daily for about a week before riding. After a few days, they broke in nicely. I was able to tighten the laces a bunch as the material stretched. Also the soles became noticeably more flexible. After a couple rides, I'm definitely satisfied. They aren't quite as flexible as my current Freeriders, but they are also a few years old, so that is to be expected. The insulation level is just right. For normal winter wear, regular socks can be worn. For winter riding 20-30* I've been wearing normal wool socks and been perfectly comfortable. With my Freeriders my toes would get cold, probably from them having ventilation, rather than these having a one piece leather toebox. I'm satisfied for sure and would buy again!
I have been using these for shoulder season biking, fat and MTB, for the past month or so. I have had no problem staying warm down to 15F with a pair of thickish socks. I do wear an old pair of gaiters over them to keep the breeze off my ankles below 20.At this point I am planning on wearing these until I have to wear the big felt liner boots and skip the Lake SPD boots I have.
These are toasty. Like sweaty feet kind of warm. They fit nicely and still fit well with my thicker wool socks. All around these are another great pair of shoes by 510.
Oustanding quality and a very nice shoe.
Great feel but the toe box on the free ride show is larger than traditional. Could’ve easily went a half size or more smaller
Per my hubby they keep his feet nice and warm and very dry. He said they are comfortable enough to go biking in but not sure they would be comfortable for hiking or walking far distances. Overall he is excited that they kept his feet warm and dry during his mountain biking trips.
Really happy with my Five Tens, always deliver a great riding experience. These shoes are top tier performance and I would recommend strongly.
Just wore them one time, but I had to make sure that I didn't also replace the pins on my pedals because these flats are supper grippy!! First time with 5/10, def not the last.
