Fantastic boots that made it through snow!! Even after several years of ownership.

I've had these boots for probably 5 years now, and I could have sworn I bought them on Amazon but I can't find my link. I still feel compelled to write a review on them after this past weekend. I love these boots so much. I go through periods where I wear them daily for months, and then I've gone time where they literally just get thrown in my closet all bent up with other stuff on them. They've got some scuffs, but they are well loved.. They are comfortable, true to size, look fantastic even throughout me gaining a pretty significant amount of weight (you can loosen the laces to fit a wider calf, but they also fit great when I was skinnier), and they have lasted me a remarkable amount of time and outlasted similar boots I've had that cost way more.I recently took my 6-year-old to the snow for the first time and realized I didn't have any snow boots. I did have a bottle of weather proofer under my sink, so the morning of the trip I sprayed all the seams, the zipper, and basically the entire side and heel area from about ankle down. I doubled my socks, rolled up my jeans, and went for it. After running around in the snow (about 6 inches to a foot deep) for over an hour my feet were dry. We went to the local gift shop area and walked around in the disgusting slush and still my feet were dry. A bit cold, as these boots are not intended to be winter or harsh weather boots, but they worked and my feet were bone dry by the time I got home. My husband, on the other hand, wore his suede military boots and his feet were soaked after 15 minutes. I want to point out that I am not suggesting people buy these to wear in the snow all the time. If you need snow boots buy snow boots, but these can get you through some inclement weather in a pinch. If you move the bottom lace hole and tongue by the top of your foot it's just open to your sock. So if you were truly trudging around in snow above your ankle you will probably have wet feet. There's no internal backing behind the laces to keep wet out if you got a bunch of snow shoved in there. I kept my laces tight and sprayed that area with the weather proofer and I luckily didn't have any snow get in.I absolutely recommend these boots to anyone looking for an awesome pair of combat boots. Throw a good insole in there, take the time to properly weatherproof them (I clearly did a rush job), and you will have great boots at a ridiculous price that can make it through rain, and even some snow!

Fun boot, good price!

When I first got these, I was a little worried about them fitting in the calves (I'm a former ballerina, and my legs have retained a lot of muscle). The strap at the top was slightly constricting at first, but it started to fit better with time, as I broke the boots in. The laces are plenty long enough for even large adjustments, and the zipper on the side is convenient. They're definitely too tight to put jeans under, but they look great over a pair of black tights, and I'm hoping to get leggings to try under them soon. All in all, a great boot for the price. So far, they've been plenty durable, and quite comfortable, too, once I broke them in. Would recommend!

Love these, got married in them, will probably be buried in them

This is my second pair of these in 10 years. These boots will endure a lot and become a soft a pliable leather with wear. I hiked several miles for months in these, and they handle terrain and distance well (though double up on socks if you can to prevent blisters if they're not broken in yet). My only disappintment would be that these are not ideal for people with a large calf, like many other combat boots are. The buckle however can be adjusted as can the laces, so wide calf folk use your best judgement. I believe my calf is 19 inches and my boots are exact fit.

They're Okay

I couldn't afford Doc Martens when I first wanted combat boots, so I bought these to start. They are a bit uncomfortable, and the man-made materials are not very durable and sagged a lot around the ankle over time. Within a few months, the seams began to fray and the toes were covered in prominent nicks and scratches. The shoelaces that are included with the boots are very long, and even after tying the laces I always had to tuck the long ends into the sides of the boots to avoid tripping. Something embarassing that occured when I first began wearing them was the awful squeaking noise the boots made with every step. After a few months the squeaking sound stopped when I would walk on carpet, but still happened on hard tile, rubber, or plastic surfaces. It could become very disruptive. A few pros do exist. They look good and the buckle is a nice touch. I did receive a lot of compliments while wearing them. If I spilled a lot of slip or got dust on my boots during pottery class, they were very easy to wipe clean, while other people got their tennis shoes completely soaked and muddy. If you're short on funds, or don't need a heavy-duty combat boot, then I'd say Volatile is a good start. However, I really wish that I had just gotten DM's to begin with. It's a much better investment. Doc Martens are by far superior in comfort and quality, and real leather is much more durable.

Huge calf

This is my 3rd pair of this exact style, Volatile boot. These have about 4 extra inches around the calf even when tightened as far as possible. They must have made a need wide calf version. So disappointing!
