The fit was initially a little narrow, but it loosened up and then I practically lived in these boots for two years straight. They looked great, were very comfortable. I tried not to wear them in the rain but they were water resistant. They finally started looking worn and raggedy this year, and I'll probably just buy a replacement pair
Steve Madden Troopa cognac sold by Orva Stores is a beautiful boot. Authentic Steve Madden Troopa. Wonderful leather smell. Size 7 fit perfectly, my usual size. I wanted to try this style boot in a lighter, warm brown color and didn’t want to spend a lot. $60 for leather boots was exactly what I wanted to spend. I’m pleased to say they are good quality and on trend.
These are a genuine leather boot. The fit is comfortable with the laces to adjust the fit and the side zipper for ease of putting on and off. The leather is soft, but still stiff enough to keep it’s shape. It’s not a heavy leather, but at this price point, it’s still a very good value. The brown is a darker brown, without being so dark, that it won’t pair with khakis or cargos. The height is above the ankle, which I prefer and looked for.The inside sole is not padded, so if you get sore feet or want a softer feel to your foot strike, you’ll have to add an insole. Not a big deal.No quilting or any lining like that. The only drawback I can list is, there seems to be a larger than normal difference in sizing from a 7 1/2 to a size 8. I usually wear a 7 1/2. Because I looked for a boot that was over my ankle, and intended to wear them in snow, I have both a size 7 1/2 and an 8. I wanted the option to double up, or wear super heavy socks in snowy cold temperatures, and like the boot, so my normal size, and a half size larger for bad weather. The 7 1/2 fit as I would expect. The 8, is more like an 8 1/2. Even tried on with socks designed for sub zero temperatures, the boots were roomy. I even double checked the size, just to be sure I hadn’t ordered wrong, or received the wrong size. So, I was faced with a decision: did I return the size 8’s, and just look for a different manufacturer, or keep them and know they’ll be somewhat loose? Especially as I knew going down a half size wouldn’t solve the issue. It’s hard to find real leather boots, much less real leather at this price, so I decided to keep them. In the honesty of full disclosure, I actually ordered more than 1 pair, and kept them all (I really like the style and affordable women’s genuine leather boots in a semi military style are not easy to find, hence the multiple order when I did).I’m happy with the purchase and price. If the sizing on the 8’s was a bit more accurate, these would be exactly what I want. As it is, the sizing issue isn’t a deal breaker, just something I thought I should mention for other people.
I ordered these boots because I LOVED the variety of colors they come in. I ordered both the Purple and the Green Leather. First off let me say the colors are more vibrant online than in person. In person the colors are still nice and striking, but I felt the toe of the Purple boot was a little too worn. Overall I still like the colors of both boots. As for fit, I had initially purchased these boots in a size 9. This is the size I normally take in most boots and sandals. The Purple boots arrived first, but in the wrong size. They were an 8.5 in a size 9 box. This actually turned out to be a good thing, as I found the 8.5 fit my foot perfectly in length and width. Speaking of width these boots are on the narrow side. When the Green boots arrived they were the correct size ordered, the 9, but the 9 was just way too big. So I would recommend sizing down at least a half-size.As for quality, my boots were stamped Made in Mexico...I know there has been some disagreement in the reviews as to where the boots are supposed to be 'made'. The leather feels nice, the stitching appears solid, but the sole seemed sloppily applied. I noticed there was a bit of adhesive that was on the back heel...however you only notice it when you look at the boot up close. I guess I was expecting a little better quality from a name like Steve Madden. In comparison my Earth boots, and even boots I purchased at Target appear to be much better quality. As for comfort I already know I won't be wearing these boots walking on concrete for long days, at least not without the addition of a gel insole. For general light wear they are comfortable enough. In the end, I bought these boots and plan on keeping them because of the color. I love the style, the color choice, and while I think there is a slight quality control issue...overall the boots appear to be alright. I will keep them and will update my posting when I start wearing them more often when cooler months arrive.
These Steve Madden combat boots are truly authentic Steve Madden boots. I have two other pair and everything about this boot is authentic for those who think they are knockoffs. I received the "ice" color in a size 8 and they are everything I hoped for and more. The color "ice" is a very light light grey. The leather is supple and they are true to size. Very happy with this purchase.
I've had these in black for several years. When I saw a good price on the brown ones, I jumped on it. I'm so happy I did. I like them even better than the black. The leather is beautiful and soft. True to size and comfortable out of the box.
