I had been warned that Dr. Marten's run a little large, so I ended up going to a local shoe store to try on a pair. They didn't have the style I wanted but I figured the size difference would be the same. As expected they were about half a size to a full size too large, but since I like putting insoles in my shoes, this actually worked to my favor and I ordered them as is. I found the dreaded "break in" period wasn't as bad because of the insoles and I am very happy with these shoes. As for the break-in period, I found that the worst of it was around the top part of the shoe. As you can see by the pictures, it doesn't have a pad there so it pretty much bruised my calf along the edge. I ended up lacing the shoes a little more than half way up to relieve the discomfort at the top. Once the shoes had broken in a bit, I laced them all the way up and found that if I kept it fairly tight at the top, it didn't hurt. So that was opposite of what I would have thought would happen. Once the shoe is broken in, it is great. I normally have a lot of foot pain (hence the insoles) and can only stand for a few hours but I was able to go to Huntington Library and walk through the gardens for about 4 hours without any foot pain. Plus I think they look cool- even on a 44 year old man.
This are my first time using docs. But before I bought them I read lots of reviews. I was worried about the fact that this collection wasn't made In the uk, ,some of the oldest reviews said that quality ead dropping. Mines are from Vietnam , and they look really good. Not only the leather (awesome looking and smooth to the touch) but the sole is very well constructed and everything looks firmly constructed. Since the day they arrived (more or less a month ago, maybe a bit more) I used them. The first few days ended up hurting the back of my feet but after breaking it up now are incredibly comfortable. They run a bit big. I ordered a 9 but I'm sure an 8 would be more accurate
I went down a size for the best broken-in fit. I’ll have these forever.
i love these docs but beware the back of your ankle/calf will get rubbed up on and sore for the first dozen times you wear these id suggest a bandaid under socks or just double layer socks
This is my third pair of Docs. I get great service out of Dr. Martens. This was my first pair of 1460s. I was leery of the higher top boots. I generally buy chukka boots, but I couldn't be more happy with them. They do require a break in period. For me that was a couple of months. Only because I have a desk job and do not do that much walking. They were tight across the instep, but are very comfortable now. I did not do anything special to break them in, just laced them up tight and after a couple of days they were becoming more comfortable. I did not have any problem with blisters, but as I said, I don't walk that much during the day.I would buy another pair. Great boots. I expect them to last as long as my last pair - a long time.
Very cute with all my fall and winter outfits! It looks just like the picture and I absolutely love the brown! Very underrated shoes first time seeing them and they are great and very fashionable!
I would have given these five stars but.....A: one boot had been worn, the other had never been tried on. It looked odd as it took time for the other boot to catch up to the break in time of the other. Had I not needed them for an event that evening, I possibly would have returned. Also my extra pair of laces were not included. Not sure if that is still a thing or not since I haven't bought a pair in 20 years, but it was always important to me to have those.
