I have wide feet. Size 8.5 W. The women's size 9 in the tall Hunter boots with the gusset in the back fit absolutely perfect. Not a lot of arch support, but there is enough room in the boot to put a supportive insole into them. They are very comfy with the insoles and I'm very picky about comfort. LOVE the gusset in the back, making the calf space wide enough for my extra wide calves, even with pants tucked in. Very hard for me to find rubber boots that would fit over my calves. Previously had to use the Muckboot brand with it's stretchy neoprene tops. But those are very stiff, heavy and clunky and hard to move quickly in. These tall Hunter boots with the back gusset are much lighter weight, more flexible, easier to move in, and just perfect for their intended purpose. I'm a dog trainer and I work outdoors often. They are not cold weather boots. If the temp drops below 35 F, they're not warm enough. I wear heavily insulated pac boots in the super cold weather. I am sensitive to the cold. I bought these intending to use them for pond-shore work, rain, mud, brush, tick protection in the lower vegetation. I went to a store and tried on another style of Hunter brand before ordering from Amazon. The local store did not have this style, or I certainly would have preferred to support my small, local business. But Amazon is always a positive experience too. THANK YOU !! PERFECT !!May 2017 Update - Have worn these boots almost daily for over a year now. Sometimes for several hours at a time. (a bit hot and sweaty in the warmer weather, but not nearly as bad as Muckboots.). I slog around in a foot of water & muck pulling cattails out of the pond, I crash through wet weeds and muddy fields training dogs, the occasional stall mucking job for a friend......the boots hose off easily and show no signs of wear. EXCELLENT! I am considering purchasing a "back-up" pair in case Hunter decides to stop making them after they outlive their current "fashion statement status". They are truly an excellent outdoor work boot.
I'm very pleased with the overall fit. Wish half sizes were available. Going to add supportive insoles which will correct both of my issues. I hope.
Big enough to tuck my jeans in. I normally wear a US women's 8.5 and have a 16" calf. This has plenty of room for thick socks.
