Detailed Review

The Kodiak Men's 8-Inch McKinney Composite Toe Waterproof Industrial Boot stands out in the realm of work footwear due to its impressive blend of safety features and comfort. The boot's composite toe provides a lightweight alternative to steel, ensuring your feet are protected without the heft that can lead to fatigue over long hours.

When it comes to environmental challenges, this boot does not falter. The full-grain waterproof leather upper combined with an effective waterproof membrane construction guarantees that your feet remain dry even in the most drenched conditions. Coupled with 200 grams of Thinsulate insulation, you’ll find that these boots keep your feet warm without overheating—a significant benefit for anyone working in fluctuating temperatures.

Comfort is paramount, especially for those on their feet for extended periods. The shoe features a Comfortzone footbed outfitted with OrthoLite comfort foam which cushions your every step, minimizing pain from long shifts. Furthermore, the Kodiak SOS Smell Out Science technology works diligently behind the scenes to prevent odors from taking root, ensuring your boots remain fresh.

Additionally, the oil and slip-resistant rubber outsole provides excellent grip on various surfaces, making them ideal for both indoor and outdoor jobs where traction is necessary. This means less worry about slips and falls, allowing you to focus on the task at hand.

While the Kodiak McKinney boots are designed for ultimate functionality, some users have noted the need for a brief break-in period due to initial stiffness. Also, be mindful when ordering as some might find the fit runs larger than usual.

In summary, if you are seeking a rugged yet comfortable work boot that embodies Canadian craftsmanship, the Kodiak Men's 8-Inch McKinney Composite Toe Waterproof Industrial Boot is a worthy investment. With its combination of security, comfort, and waterproof capabilities, it’s a go-to choice for hardworking individuals.

They look like work boots

**Update 9-7-23**Saw these boots are selling for $200ish and was lowkey offended. These are no $200 boots and it's unfair to market it to people looking to spend their hard earned money on boots that need to perform. Pound for pound the Carolina CA8528 is better in every way and priced similarly. I own those Carolinas as a backup to my Danner Quarry boots. These can't compete with either of those. Changing my rating from 4 to 3 stars.Kodiak wanted to make a harder working boot than any of their current lineup. They achieved that considering most of their boots are fashion focused. I have Kodiak Thane boots that I enjoy for general stomping around. But these McKinney boots have several qualifying qualities that place em into the work category. The gusseted tongue is a great feature and the fact that the upper portion of it is unlined bare leather adds to the rugged appeal. The comp toe and plate make a lighter boot. Though the composite toe cap only covers all but the two outside smaller toes. The outsole is just like the Thane boots. Flexy rubber with good grip for the black portion and a harder rubber used in the red sections. Climbing ladders you still feel the rungs through the boot. Crushing cans with your feet and you feel the can folding underneath the flexy sole. I advise changing out the shoelaces early on. It's great they give us two pair and while they're handsome paired with the boots, they're just not hardy. On the first day of owning these I knelt down to install something and noticed that there's a small rip in the toe. The leather is THIN! That thin leather does aid in comfort out of the box and the comp plate aids in the flexible sole. I'm coming from Danner Quarry work boots. That's a high bar and truly worth the price even though they're about double the price of these. I believe these boots ought to be in the $140-160 range at most. They're a work boot from a fashion brand. I've had them two months now. They do hold up against water pretty well as advertised. Haven't gotten wet feet yet though they've been in wet environments about once a week. Before purchasing these boots I reached out to Kodiak directly inquiring about how the upper attaches to the sole. These look like they're welted all the way around but I suspect that they're glued and the a fake welt stitch for looks. I didn't get a response and that was a bit of a let down. To be fair, neither the website nor the description here suggest any welting. Looking like a resoleable boot for the sake of looking like one shows its true colors. I don't dislike these boots. I'm just coming from a real work boot and am critical of one that wants to look like a real work boot. I'll keep wearing em daily and if they surprise me in durability chops I'll come back and update. For reference I'm a size 12 and they fit pretty true. Not nearly as wide as I though but definitely not a narrow boot. I'm wastewater operator at both a treatment plant and collections system. I'm on my feet every day digging holes, climbing ladders, installing/inspecting pipe, doing rounds on various surfaces. For these boots to last long, I'll have to consciously treat them for what they are: a work boot from a fashion company.

Comfortable, but we’re out quick on the bottom soul🤷🏻‍♂️

The bottom heel suction wore out in less than six months other than that I love the boots they’re comfortable and they do everything I want I put 40 hours a week on these boots at work I’m tough on boots but for 180 bucks they should last more than six months I think they’re probably the most comfortable boots I’ve ever wore though I love everything about them except the bottom wearing out so fast maybe they could use a tougher material I sent pictures and emailed him and got zero response so I’m gonna give it two stars and go to the local shoe place and see if they can fix it for cheap Because they’re the most comfortable boots I’ve ever wore, and they’re far from being totally wore out. The rest of the boot is awesome they’re waterproof they’re comfortable they do everything I wanted to do but the bottom heel section wore out on me very quick, so two stars is generous Because I got zero response from customer service after I emailed them pictures what’s up with that no worries I got it. I’ll take him to an old guy. I know that’ll fix some good.

Maybe would be better if you order a size or two bigger.

I did like that they were high-quality.They’re just too small but them for work welding boots. And I can’t wear them because they’re too tight so they just sit in my house not being used.

Soles are too thin

I wanted to like these more. Everything above the sole is fine; the leather is soft & waterproof, the lining is comfortable, & the toe box has just enough room for thick socks, since the shoe is pretty cavernous with it's proud minimal padding. But one step and you'll notice how pathetic the soles are. Walk on enough rocks and your feet WILL hurt. They are slip-resistant at least, though they squeak a bit on smooth floors. Insulation is also wasted here: some boots with a puncture plate don't have insulation underfoot because the non-metal plate/mesh does that job anyway, right? WRONG, your feet will be cold on the bottom, but warm on top. This wouldn't be such a problem if the soles were thicker than those on Chuck Taylors. Overall these could've been great, but the soles are just too thin. For north of $200, you probably shouldn't cheap out on what comes between your feet & the ground

Not what I’d expected…

I really wanted to like these boots but I just hated them. The leather was good, but they were heavy and I didn’t really warm up to the lack of padding. I took one out of the box, tried it on and then it went right back in and I began the return process.
